Good wineries around Austin?

Anyone been to any good wineries near town? Thinking of taking a trip with the girlfriend out to some this weekend.

If you want to hit multiple ones, your best bet is probably to head to the Fredricksburg area. The Fredricksburg Winery is in town and the folks there are very friendly. There's also several scattered around town.

I like Fall Creek Vineyards in Tow as a day trip, you can go to Cooper's in Llano for lunch.

Texas Wine Trails has much more detail than I can provide.

Becker winery is top notch, in terms of the wine they produce.

I have heard the Tow winery is very pretty, but haven't been there.

the wine trail is a great resource tool.

If you call in advance, you can probably schedule a tour at any of them.

horn4life,

I talked to a guy in the wine business, he told me that the Voignier produced by Becker might be the best wine made in the state.

Personally, it is my favorite white wine, but I'm not a huge chardonnay guy.

I can second Becker's Voignier. It is a neat little winery and you can stop off in nearby Luckenbach too.

Becker is best, and there is nobody even close to them in quality. I went to Texas Hills Winery, and the guy there was so proud of his wine and it sucked horribly. I second that the Viognier by Becker is best in the state - no other wine has that much complexity and flavor.

2002,

when I visited, I thought the people at Texas Hills were complete ********. completely different than Becker.

another great thing about Becker is they have a huge field of lavender. stuff smells great and they had it all over the tasting house when I was there.
