Good places for music/night life in Austin

A friend of mine might be coming to Austin in the near future and she's interested in checking out the live music & clubs down on 6th street and what not. I just wanted to get some input from you guys as to some of your personal favorite places for that sort of stuff in and around downtown Austin.

What kind of music does she like or prefer?

For Jazz I suggest the Elephant Room.

For metal to death metal the 710 Club on Red River.

She's looking more along the lines of indie rock.

I am not trying to be trite or insulting but have her read an Austin Chronicle either in person or online atThe Link

It is chock full of fun stuff, as you know, but has club and band listings several weeks in advance sometimes. She can get a feel for what is played at certain bars and clubs and keep up with it week to week to prepare for her visit. She may find some really cool gem that would otherwise escape you or others.

Anyone with recommendations for either/or good ole fashioned Southern bluesy rock and/or Alt-Country places?
