Good place to get a massage? (quality price)

Hey guys, just got back from a cruise with my girlfriend and on board I got my first professional massage. I was very pleased with it and I am wondering if there are any good places yall know about around town. I guess I am just looking for your basic stress release/ tight muscle kinda stuff.

Best deal ... call the Austin School of Massage Therapy. When they have students graduating, the students need to do a full massage practical in the presence of their instructor. You can get a great massage for $20 ... and make sure you specify if you want a male or female to do the massage.

This could get ugly quick, so I'll post a real reply. You and your girl should try Jackson Ruiz Salon on 5th and Lamar. Real professional, clean, and relaxing. Although I have never been there for a massage, it is a great salon, with a great reputation. Just don't ask for a Happy Ending.

I can vouch for the Austin School of Massage. Great for $20. but...

if you're looking for something more relaxing and private, just go to any of the day spas/salons in town. Some are more expensive than others, but you essentially get the same thing.

I've personally been to:

Bella (a bit expensive, but nice)
Anne Kelso
Aziz

I think it is called Morning Star. It is on Fifth street, just West of Lamar. It is on the South side of the street. Very professional and lots of good aromatherapy, stretching and relaxation products to be had also. Walk in there and browse and you will pick up on the vibe.

I think my insurance covers a massage as long as my primary refers me to one. Since I sit up so much I think that is what qualifies me. I asked a former co-worker about it after he told me he went for a year or so. He also got referred to a chiropractor. He went twice a week. I am gonna look into it. I have United Healthcare. Anybody know about this?

is the midnight cowboy still around. that place was on 6th street forever and out of all of the times that i went to 6th street i never saw any evidence that it was occupied.

rtapia, people have walked in there and never walked out...kinda like the Scientology Center on the drag.

Good luck finding a place. I drove by Morning Star today, the name is correct.

Campus,

Not a very well-timed response, but oh well. I am also on United Healthcare, and the Chiropractor/Masseuse coverage is legit. It might depend on your personal plan, but on my parents' the policy provided for up to about 25 massages per year where you just pay your deductible.

If you get an adjustment immediately following, I promise you you will feel like a new person.

You speak the truth about feeling tip-top, Captain. When I was certified as a personal trainer and also did some Phys. Therapy Asst. work I found that out. Our clinic was very well rounded and rare. We had Ortho's, P.T.'s, Massage Therapists and Chiro's on staff. The M.D.'s were not threatened by the Chiropractor's and worked WITH them. There are many, many things that D.C.'s can help with and the fix can be more long term...however, it takes longer sometimes for the results. One of the perks at the job was getting massages, check-ups, x-rays, therapy and also adjustments and treatment. It was awesome.

On the day of a date, I would get a massage, then an adjustment. It was awesome. If I tweaked an ankle playing hoops, no prob., hit the ultrasound. Slept wrong, Interferential Stimulation w/ the pads and then an adjustment, then the massage...it worked. I sorta miss that job now, damnit.

Thank you for the info., btw. Do you recommend a D.C. in Austin?

To the person who started the thread...did you decide on a place and how was it?
