Good place to find unusual plants/flowers

Wolfe's Nursery is the only thing I can think of ever seeing that strikes me as the right sort of place and I don't even know if they are around any more - then again I never was really paying attention. There's gotta to be something with more than just a Home Depot or Wal-Mart gardening section is going to have, right?

Did you try a phone book? Or the internet? Yes, there are places other than Walmart or Home Depot. That place at Bee Caves and 360 with all the flamingos, the red barn place at 183 and mcneil/pond springs, i remember some hippy looking place with a shitload of cactii on South Congress.

I'm sure there is something in the city, but if you are up for a nice hill-country excursion, there is a little place in Spicewood that has some truly unique and unusual plants and flowers that I've never seen anywhere else. Stuff from Africa, South America, etc.

Try any of the following:

Sledd Nursery - West Lynn

Big Red Sun - East Cesar Chavez

Gardens - 35th St.

None of the above have Home Depot or Wal-Mart prices, but they do have more unusual and hard to find stuff than what you'll find at those two places.

The closet of these dudes who used to live in a crappy old wooden house in West Campus back in the day. They had an extensive "garden," as I recall.

I suggest making it maybe a bit harder on yourself and make sure that the plants are native to the area. Surely there is something not quite as common or used that would still be native. You will find you get more help from the organic places if you try to keep it native.
