Good Place for Valentine's dinner in Austin?

I was just wondering if anyone could help me out with some good places to take a date on Valentine's. This will be my first Feb. 14 in Austin and I have no clue where I could possibly go.

I have heard that Romeo's on Barton Springs is a good place. Walk in there and check it out someday. It is Italian food.

Romeo's is so unoriginal. If you want good Italian food in this city, which is hard to find, take the lucky lady to Carmello's. It's a bit pricey; but definitley better than Romeo's.

ugh, Carmelo's

good V-Day spots:

Mars
Aquarelle
Starlite
Demi Epicurious
Emilia's
Sienna
Vespaio
Green Pasture's

all are romantic and will get you laid

Zoot recently lost it's chef (John Maxwell). He will be the chef at the Mansion at Judge's Hill. This is a new luxury hotel that is on the corner of Rio Grande and MLK (across Rio Grande from Bert's BBQ)

point is, food may not be as good

yes, Basil's is also a good choice

See if you can even get a reservation ANYWHERE.

If not choose your resturant by how decent the bar is cause you are going to wait a while.

I like Flemming's downtown for Steak, better than either Sullivan's or Ruth's Chris.

The wife and I pretty much have decided to boycott Valentine's eating out. The service is never as good as normal, the food is hard pressed to be a good with the volume, and your wiater is usually hammered.

basil's is always nice
Vespaio is very good on South OCngress but small!
Louie's 106 used to be my fave, 6th and Congress

Basically go WAY early and be willing to guzzle some cocktails or vino in the bar while waiting for a table.

Good LUCK!

You can still get a reservation if you call ASAP. I got a prime-time Valentine's reservation at Bellagio just a few days ago.

Most any place listed here is a good choice. Just pick one and make a reservation as soon as you can.

...and Fleming's does not offer a better steak than Ruth's Chris or Sullivan's. It's good, but not even close.

for the record

You can still get reservations at most places, but don't wait long.

I booked Vespaio's last week, but had to get a 6pm because all primo hours were taken. You can eat at the bar though, but it's not quite the same. Basil's fuckin' rocks!

I recently had a really enjoyable experience at Wink on Lamar. One of the chefs used to be at Zoot. Anyway, the food was good and the service was excellent. You can check out the menu on their website: The Link

I don't know if they are already booked for Valentines, but I would still recommend this place if you're ever looking for someplace different.

FYI, Truluck's has some 5:30pm and 9:15pm slots left ... I think I just got their last 6:00pm reservation.

Regarding Zoot:

Note in today's paper says that the owners of Zoot have sold to the owners of Wink. Zoot will close briefly but will be open again in time for Valentine's Day, and they will honor all existing reservations.

Cool River has a nice environment also.

I have also heard that Castle hill cafe and Paggi's a good, but I have never been to either.

Avoid Romeos-- they ahve a great environemnt, but the food sucks, and they usually dont take reservations. (unless something has changed...)

Cool River has a nice environment if you're looking to dine in a cheesy-*** Dallas-esque bar. I know the restaurant is on the other side, but hardly conducive to V-Day. I will say, however, that the food is actually quite decent.

Paggi House and Castle Hill are good V-Day choices, though
