Good Ol' Aggy looking out for the Horns

yesterday late in the game Dave South commented on the aggy/ Longhorn game saying it was a great effort by the Horns and he " hopes the Horns didn't peak too early"
isn't that sweet? Aggy hopes the Horns didn't peak too early.

then in the overtime with Baylor up the aggy color guy said aggy had the Bears right where they wanted them. He paused and then in a moment of honesty allowed that maybe it would be better if aggy was actually ahead.

You can't make this stuff up and you don't have to make it up

*lose in OT to what is historically the worst team in the Big XII while your rival wins their 8th consecutive conference game by double digit points*
*Make backhanded compliments about rival*
AGGIES

Let me interpret.

By South saying "hope the Horns haven't peaked too early" what he's really saying is:

"the Horns needed to play at their highest level of the year to beat my beloved aggys at Reed. Therefore, they must be peaking, otherwise anything less than their best effort and aggy would have won this game, since we all know that aggy is the better team."

he's bad enough with football games. i'd have to remove all the guns in the house if i listened to him doing aggy bb games

Some KU fans also wonder about Texas peaking too early. My response was, what choice did Texas have? Should they have played worse or lost a couple?

Damned be he who speaks ill of Dave of the House of South; he, who gave us the greatest comment of all time in all possible universes.

To wit, with the Aggies down 42-0 with halftime approaching against the Sooners (of whom all agree it could truly be said that they suck) and the Sooners scoring again in the final seconds of said first half, boosting the Sooner lead to 49-0, uttered, did Dave, the immortal words renowned in my household if in no other: "Well, Ags, that last score is going to make it real tough for us to come back and win this game."

And of course it turned out he was absolutely correct, as only an Aggie announcer can be absolutely correct. The Aggies were unable to overcome that inflated lead, falling in the end after a valiant comeback effort by a final score of 77-0 in one of the greatest games in the history of football, if not all sports.

All Praise to Dave South

The question then is, how good do you (in the general sense, not you specifically) think they are?

They're been beating people by significant margins after beating KU. KU didn't beat Tech in Lubbock by as much as Texas did. Texas would have done it to Tech again, but for losing interest. KU won last night by 17 over MU at home. Texas beat MU by 13. In both cases, the winners decided pretty much how much they would win by.

The issue is expectations. KU started the season in the top ten and has stayed there. People don't talk of them as having peaked because they've looked like the team people thought they would be. Texas didn't start in the polls, and has been surprising people all season. Maybe whatever ceiling KU has, Texas also has -- people just don't comprehend it. (Whatever the Texas ceiling is, I know I didn't.)

Save for a half against KU, Texas hasn't struggled at all in the B12. I'll go with that until I am shown differently.

Just watching the last couple of games, I never got the impression that the team had peaked. Still plenty of things to improve, some defensive lapses, we looked pretty poor at times on offense down the stretch against A&M, Missouri and Tech.

I think the whole "peaking" argument is better suited for a mature team that basically is what it is. This group is young and still learning a lot. There's still plenty of room for growth, and my hope is that it's going to continue. I think our concerns have more to do with the inability of human beings to accept when things are going really well: "surely we CAN'T keep this up forever!!!" Well, they may not finish conference unbeaten, but so far no signs that playing at the current level is unreasonable to expect.
