Good Job Pres. Obama

Military action would be ineffective, unpopular, nigh pointless

Whatever the reason you decided not to do it I am pleased.

Recognizing that doing nothing can be the best option could not have been easy.

I also have to admit, it will be interesting to watch the UN and RoW reaction when they realize they can handle this themselves, whatever this is.

Dillo,

You are partially correct. Never underestimate the fact that Putin will kick his *** seven ways from Sunday if he chooses to do so. Syria is Putin's private playground and gateway to controlling all the oil in Iraq and Iran before the decade is out.

Putin only fears one man on this earth.

I applaud his decision no matter how he arrived at it. A first for me so get our butts out of Afganistan

We have no business in Syria. Obama should have just stayed on the golf course.

??
BO did not " decide" to not " send a shot across the bow".
Even as I post this he and all his handlers are on the phone to every person in co Congress they can get to speak to them m trying to get their vote to send that shot.

How BO went from Kerry's dramatic do it now scare tactic plea Friday to a oh let's wait for 9 more days and let congress vote without understanding that most people will see BO's waffling for what it is I do not know

But to be clear BO did NOT decide not to do it.

I agreed with him when he was doing nothing. This crap he is pulling now is weak and pathetic

McCain and Graham certainly are lobbying their fellow Republicans to vote for the resolution. That might just be enough for it to pass.

John McCain has never been the same since losing to W in the primaries. He has gone from Statesman to the political equivilent of a Las Vegas "lounge act". Never gonna make it to the "big room".

Now we need to hope the Congress doesn't make it worse.

McCain can EABOD

Obama knows he is a foreign policy laughingstock and he got himself in over his head with his red line comments. Parliament saying no is his way out and ours as well.

I am goign to be pissed if Congress fumbles this

George will on the money

Of course Congress is going to make it worse. The prospect of military action to the hawks in the Republican party, is like dangling a fix in front of a junkie.

Now that he's painted himself in a corner with the threat of firing missiles at Syria, getting the war mongers in Congress involved appears to be a pretty smart move by the President. At least now he won't be in that corner alone. It does make for some strange bed fellows though.

I understand what you are saying but Obama is supposed to be REALLY smart not political smart.

I have been deluged by the press about how brilliant he is for 7 years.

Getting hawks involved to do something that makes no sense is not what I would call smart. Not doing it would be smart.

There seems to be many Republicans who are not on board for this too little/too late half-*** action. Not all R's are hawks, and obviously not all Dems are pacifists. Think just a little bit every once in a while. Plus BO has already said he'll take action with or without Senate support. And then he is going to close Gitmo and pull all troops out of Afghanistan. I think he is finding out that being President is much more difficult than running for President. This whole "I will get Congress's support" is just a way to say the Buck Doesn't Stop With BO. Ever. It is a bit late to blame everything on Bush, so if whatever the hell he does succeeds, it will all be on him. If it fails, it's all the Republican's fault. What a POS.

Did you forget BO said he could strike Syria even if congress votes against it?

How sad you are only capable of thinking people don't want to go into Syria because they do not like BO> Very small minded of you.
Does that include any Dem who does not want to back BO on this? There are many of them as well

35.....How can you use democracy in the same sentence with King Obama?

Who said God does not have a sense of humor when he created politics?!

Hmm, @roger35 - I am not partisan, it appears you are a pretty partisan guy by your response.

Here was an interesting article I read that compares Bush in Iraq and Obama in Syria

I think over the years the press has supressed much of the truth about the porcess to go to Iraq, but that's understandable. In any case, going to Iraq per Friedman (who I love) was never about what the government said it was about and the reasoning behind it makes sense if you believe Friedman -

Reference above if you care to read (fascinating)

Here's a free Stratfor article on the siutation
