Rick Perry's College Transcript: A Lot Of Cs And Ds
Rick Perry

WASHINGTON -- As governor of Texas, Rick Perry has pursued a controversial agenda that would gut Texas' vaunted public university system in favor of something that more closely resembles a business.

As the Washington Post reported on Thursday, professors have been ranked according to how profitable they were to the university. Previous reports suggested Perry wanted to treat students as "customers" and tie teacher bonuses to anonymous student evaluations.

One reason that might explain his hostility toward the system: He didn't do very well in it. A source in Texas passed The Huffington Post Perry's transcripts from his years at Texas A&M University. The future politician did not distinguish himself much in the classroom. While he later became a student leader, he had to get out of academic probation to do so. He rarely earned anything above a C in his courses -- earning a C in U.S. History, a D in Shakespeare, and a D in the principles of economics. Perry got a C in gym.

Perry also did poorly on classes within his animal science major. In fall semester 1970, he received a D in veterinary anatomy, a F in a second course on organic chemistry and a C in animal breeding. He did get an A in world military systems and “Improv. of Learning” -- his only two As while at A&M.

"A&M wasn't exactly Harvard on the Brazos River," recalled a Perry classmate in an interview with The Huffington Post. "This was not the brightest guy around. We always kind of laughed. He was always kind of a joke."

A spokesperson for the governor recently told the Texas Tribune that the university "helped shape who he is today." The governor’s office did not return a request for comment from The Huffington Post.

"A spokesperson for the governor recently told the Texas Tribune that the university "helped shape who he is today.""

Sounds about right.

Or you could just be satisfied with his heading the Harvard Law Review. Perry was dumbing down A&M when it was full of men with SATs of 860.

Incredible,

Well after reading about his academic accomplishments I can now better understand why he is defunding the university system and the education system as a whole. Our entire education system in the state has been nose diving under Bush and Perry. It was one of the reasons I did not favor Bush in the 00 election even though he was our governor.

All those "smart" Ivy League types have ruined the economy. Not a big Perry fan, but the Texas econmy is certainly much better than the rest of the US. You don't have to make good grades to know that you cannot continue to spend money you don't have. Most Americans live by that rule every day. Why not Washington???????

"Not a big Perry fan, but the Texas econmy is certainly much better than the rest of the US."

Doesn't change the fact that the legislators and Gov. in Austin screwed the pooch by ignoring warnings about future budgets.

Short memory, or just selective?

You forget that $27 billion deficit?

"D in veterinary anatomy, a F in a second course on organic chemistry and a C in animal breeding."

Is it a coincidence he did better in animal breeding? Don't all aggys excel in animal husbandry?

Amazing how the liberal media manages to come up with his college transcript when he's not even an announced candidate, but after all these years Obama's transcripts are apparently top secret.

The man is a professional candidate. He's run for one office after another every election cycle since 1985.

Transparency, as used in the humanities and in a social context more generally, implies openness, communication, and accountability. It is a metaphorical extension of the meaning a "transparent" object is one that can be seen through. Transparent procedures include open meetings, financial disclosure statements, freedom of information legislation, budgetary review, audits, etc.

Do you think it was liberals? Wonder where liberals gained access to his transcript, on his staff? at Texas A&M University? places where maybe long ago he applied for a job or for grad school? Frankly I'd suspect someone in his own party.
This transcript isn't the only place where Perry's intellectual capabilities are on display. Obviously Texas voters think he's smart enough for the job he has now or he wouln't keep kicking butts in the election. If I were investigating I'd look first at people working for to help Perry rivals will the Republican Presidential nomination. I think Obama and his people would rather face Perry than a candidate who is more articulate, more accomplished and more intelligent.

Credit downgrades presided over by BO = 1
Credit downgrades presided over by RP = 0

See how easy it is...?

Perry has no business being President, but neither does our current "President Downgrade". Neither is up to the job.
