I'm literally smiling from ear to ear right now after reading this. The CWS represents, literally, everything we Husker fans and Nebraskans love about our state and this is everything that is good about sports. One of the best columns I have read in quite some time.
Kirk's article today brought a smile to my face too.
The foreshadowing in his piece today indicates to me that his time and place at the Slantsman, like Ben Sargent is, nearing it's end.
Over the years, it's my opinion that a lot of his work was not based on objective reporting of sports but as a self-appointed fault finder so as to gain notoriety by always questioning the judgment of the people he's covered.
I have read almost all his stuff over the years (that's all he asks I guess) and I don't find myself compelled to offer him the empty seat next to me at the first game that he has to fend for himself at.
I read the Houston, Dallas and San Antone Sports' every day and, well, Kirk is just different. If Bill Sullivan would come back to replace Kirk, the earth might cool off a bit.
that is absolutely true that college baseball is starved for coverage. click on espn and maybe you can find 1 article admidst the b.s. about women's softball, hockey, etc.
With sites like the CSTV team sites and d1baseball.com, good statistical coverage is readily available-and I read and use it. The numbers speak for themselves and I get the stats I need to form my opinions.
The fact that we have sports writers-who's job it is to help sell advertising-rarely advances sporting analysis, IMO.
I learn what I need to learn from reading the thought's of intelligent posters who share their analyses in online sports forums, not Kirk Bohls.
