ran across this looking up double-eagles:

"Jack’s third “albatross” came during The Tradition, one of the Majors on the Champions Tour. It was scored at the Desert Mountain Golf Club, Cochise Course, in Scottsdale, Arizona on April 7, 1996, exactly 61 years after fellow Club member Gene Sarazen scored his. It happened during the third round on the 500 yard, par-5, 12th hole. He drove the ball 351 yards off the tee. From 159 yards out he hit his 8-iron. Jack had scored his third and final double eagle to go on to win his 100th professional title"

100!! something tells me Tiger's not gonna catch 100.

Jack's official website lists his total at 115. I realize times are different, in the 1960s and 70s Jack was playing in many more tourneys than Tiger does today, Jack had five kids, needed to feed and send them to college, etc.; but still 115!!??

Tiger's sitting at about 75 now, he's not gonna win 40 more, he'll lose interest about number 90 or so.

Jack has said before he is very glad that Tiger was not around during his era or we may not know who he is. I believe him. Tiger says the same about Jack but we all know the deal.

Nicklaus's 115 wins include 73 PGa Tour wins, 22 non-PGA wins (Australian Opens, Skins Games, etc.), 10 senior tour wins, and 10 other senior wins.

The Link

Woods already has 71 PGA tour wins, 38 European Tour wins, 2 Japan Tour wins, 1 Asia tour and 1 Australasia tour win to go with 15 other professional wins.

The Link

The majors count both as PGA tour and European Tour wins, as do a few of the others, like Bridgestone Invitational.

Edit: At Tiger's age, Nicklaus was still looking forward to victories in 20 PGA Tour events (including 6 majors), 3 Australian Opens, and all the senior stuff.

whoa! I had no idea Tiger had that many non-PGA wins.

yeah, he's got Jack beat, will be interesting to see how long it takes for him to beat Jack's 18.

Tiger has 97 pro wins. 71 PGA.

WOW, JUST WOW

If the money sucked like it did back then and Tiger was playing a full slate, he wouldn't have had as much time to bang skanks and he would have won probably 30-40 more PGA events by now. The money now is too good and gave him the ability to play whenever he wanted, both on the course and off.

Jack was driving the ball with crappy equipment and balls compared to today. If they were the same age I would take Jack six out of ten.

Wrong. This has been addressed by Jack and countless others. The difficulty of the courses now is ridiculous and it negates any advantage that hitting it farther or with different equipment would give. They had Jack and somebody else go over the course for the U.S. Open a few years ago and they were almost laughing at how ridiculous some of the holes were. The length of a course, the difficulty of the roughs, the sometimes necessity to put it on the fairway, the speed and angle of the greens not to mention the hole placements is absurd.

Tiger is in MUCH better physical shape than they were and that alone would give him a great advantage. He tackles the sport like an athlete who also has the skills to go along with the might. I love me some Jack and the guys back then but let's give Tiger his due, they sure do and they know much better than you or I do.

but in terms of a Jack vs. Tiger, I'm still giving the mental edge to Jack, remember when during a major, one of his later ones, the analyst was talking about Jack standing over the golf ball to putt, Jack goes into deep concentration mode, totally blocks everything out.

Now compare that to the ranting and raving Tiger who can't even control his mouth.

I'm still not convinced Tiger will actually beat the 18.
