1) first fix- try moving the ball out slightly farther away from your body. When you are addressing the ball have your club lined up with about 1/3 of the ball actually outside of the club.

When you swing your arms extend and stretch and the additional distance will be made up.

iS YOUR SLICE A WICKED BANANA? Or just a continual fade?

2) try closing your stance slightly.

I usually have a fade and simply play it to the left. Then of course I hammer a square shot and am searching for the ball to the left.

THE BEST thing to do is spend $50 on a lesson and get them to adjust your "set up" grip, ball placment, foot stance and PRACTICE what THEY teach you. Most folks take a lesson and then go back to what feels "comfortable" that wasn't working to begin with.... stupidity in the thought it doesn't "feel" right...

H4l...
It's about 50/50 on the "Banana" and a fade...

3 wood less slice (what's funny is I hit my 3 wood further off the ground than I hit my driver..

5 wood and irons practically no slice at all.

I'm thinking one problem is that my body is getting around before my hands...

I've had good luck keeping the driver in the bag and using a three wood from the tee. My distance dosn't suffer much at all, and I hit it a lot straighter than with the driver.

I recommend some of the suggestions above but I had a mean slice when I first started playing and I finally figured out that my clubs were too short. I'm 6' 1" or so and my clubs were really old and a little shorter than standard. It caused me to have to bend over way too much to compensate and then I'd be pulling off the ball a bit on impact b/c of my arm extension.

Just a thought when reviewing what might be causing this problem.

I'll put in a reply of lessons also. But here is one thing to notice at the range or on the course and its what I do. I noticed you said you think hands in front of body, make concious effort to make sure you really turn your hips thru...even overexaggerate the hip turn. When ball starts slicing on me....I focus on hip turn and drives straighten out like an arrow

Ripdude - you have to understand what causes the slice in the first place. Since you say you're trying to cure it - I'll assume you don't know what causes it. If you know all this already - cool.

The slice is caused by you imparting side spin (clockwise) upon impact. That clockwise side-spin is most typically a slice because you are swinging on an "Outside-In" swing path. You are probably even "coming over the top" to make contact. Imagine a line drawn from behind you through your ball directly toward your target. If your downswing goes outside that imaginary line and then inside as you approach the ball, that causes the sidespin and slice. Or, you can even make it really worse by hitting over the top, meaning you lunge and exert all your swing speed at the start of your downswing. That, along with an outside-in swing path will really send it to bananaville.

So, what do people do to cure the slice? They think that since it goes right, I'll aim farther left (compensation). Rather than being a good fix, this actually makes everything worse by accentuating the outside-in swing path. The farther left you aim - the farther it will slice.

Watch some of the pros swing it. They all have a nice Inside-Out swing path and they don't rush it at the top. How do we mortals get to Inside-Out? It's more than just changing the swing path, but that is a start.

Remember this - the more you deviate from the "standard" grip, posture and alignment - the more you will have to compensate. Keep a neutral grip, proper posture and align at the target. Try hitting only 80% of the club and focus on making an inside-out move. Most importantly, get some lessons from a qualified teaching pro. It's the best money you can spend.

"Try hitting only 80% of the club and focus on making an inside-out move."

that's sums it up for me, right there...

Re: Memorial...
Is that the one that Nicklaus indorses?

"A common problem with people who slice is having a swing that's extremely right arm dominant."

anyone ever seenThe Link ?? The Dave Way to curing a slice... apparently it is 4 exercises to work on while at the range... if anyone has actually dropped the $30 for this guy can you share the info contained within??

A good drill that I use to tune an inside out wing is to get 9 tees. Make a rectangle with them. Using 3 rows of 3. The rectangle should be about as long as your golf stance is wide. Put your ball on the middle tee and practice taking the club inside. Watch the club pass over the tee in the lower left corner of the box. Bring the club back over that same tee on your downswing and the follow through should pass over the upper right hand tee. Finish high on your follow through. Start off by taking slow little haf shots just to get the feel of the path and watch the clubhead follow the path. Don't worry so much about where the ball is going. You'll be hitting a nice solid draw in no time.

Good tips. Another is to imagine there is a laser in the grip pointing down. Concentrate on trying to draw an outide in line during your downswing. The easiest swing thought I have is to try and hit the ball right. Given that everything in golf is opposite (e.g. downward blow makes ball go up, setting up left makes ball go right, etc.), you will usuallypromote a nice draw with this.

Also make sure your grip is strong enough. A strong grip will kill a slice quicker than anything.

Texas007...

I'm guessing you are a lefty??
also.. am I to assume that you put the tees in front and behind farther into the ground so as to not interfere with the swing, or are they all at the same height?

From a golf novice who has taken lessons:

Practice rolling your wrists more as you bring the club around. If the club head is flush with the ball when you hit it, it will be more likely to go straight.

What I do is slow-motion practice swings and make sure that the club head is flush. Then I slowly speed up the practice swings until I'm doing a full swing. Usually works for me.
