For those of you who have played basketball you will
recognize what I am going to say. There are few of our
players who have a consistent pre-shot routine.
Flash to golf. Virtually every good golfer has a pre-shot
routine that he/she does before EVERY shot. This has
several benefits, among which are the ability to relax, start
over, concentrate, and block out negative thoughts. This
routine is just a part of their game, every day, every time.
Same with good free-throw shooters.
For instance, I see several of our players flex their knees
prior to the shot (good move), but then straighten up and
just shoot with their upper body (not a good move).
Again, virtually every good free-throw shooter has the
same routine, usually -- not always -- focusing on the rim,
and dribbling the ball two or three times, deep breath,
and fire. Whatever it is, it stays the same.
Watch the inconsistency on this team. It isn't there for
the most part.
J'Covan has a "step up and fire", but he is consistent with
this, hence that is his routine.
