Goldman Sachs is hiring 1,000

Probably important for them to be closer to growing markets. Hopefully, they will have reason to move cash back to the US in the future.

So when these overseas operations take risks that blow up in their faces, which country's taxpayers have to bail them out?

Yo: You are right about Goldman Sachs. They likely would have been fine without the TARP money but took it just so it wouldn't look like all the recipients were on the verge of bankruptcy. They assessed risk much better than Bear Stearns, Morgan Stanley and Lehmann Brothers -- and a lot of their customers..

Like most banks and financial companies that recieved TARP, they just sat on the cash and didnt stimulate lending to get the economy moving. Thats why they were able to pay it back with interest.

Yeah, that would have been absolutely genius. We should have cratered the economy....

We would probably be on the road to a real recovery by now. it is going to happen eventually. every great empire in the history of the world was defeated not by another army but by poor financial decisions. our politicians lack the basic kowledge, courage and will power to make the best deicisions for the country. they have shown it time and time again. nothing will change if a republican is elected either. every republican governor running increased his state's spending. nothing will change until it all comes crashing down and we will then we will be reduced to the level of a UK only with more problems.

You may be right Rex but BoA and Wells Fargo recieved TARP and still pulled back on extending credit. Basically they did the opposit of what Hank Paulson (who I thought was very naive) intended it to do.
