Going to see Whaley tonight

Going to the Madisonville vs. Rockdale game tonight. I'm a teacher in Rockdale so it'll be easy to get to. Rockdale's a good team with a 4-1 record but hasn't played anyone really great yet. I'll be rooting for Rockdale to win, but for Whaley to have a great game.

Looking forward to see a future star on the field. I'll make sure there's some orange in the stands. I'll post on Monday to tell you what I saw and what I think.

We look forward to your report!

he missed almost 3 quarters of last week's game w/ a thigh bruise, not sure of his status for this week

First of all, he has the physical tools. Size, speed, and strength.

The guy rushed 19 times for 60 yards. Ack. Rockdale knew what was coming and went after him every time he sniffed the ball. Also, he had NO blocking. He was easily the biggest guy on his team and there was never a hole of any kind. The few successful plays he had, he was hit in the backfield, shrugged it off, then ignored the fact that there was no hole where it was supposed to be, then beat someone to the corner. Usually though, he was hit in the backfield, which slowed him down enough that he gained about two yards before getting gang tackled.

The guy just wasn't shifty, didn't make cuts, had no moves. I think he might actually be too big to be a running back, unless he wants to be a fullback. I've heard rumors that he had a nagging hip injury. Not that it would've made much difference, in my opinion.

Overall, is he that mediocre or is his team that bad? Hard to tell. He certainly has the physical tools, but doesn't do all the other things that make a great back. I'm hoping he improves with coaching. After all, you can't coach strength or speed (though you can develop it), but you can teach the guy how to hit holes, wait for blocks, etc. Hard for him to learn that now since there are no holes, blocks, etc.
