in brady labor day weekend. i've never been, but stopped at hard 8 on way home from midland yesterday, and had some of the best cabrito ive ever had. and i'm a connosieur of the stuff. lots of great mexican joints here in sa that serve it, and laredo has a good reputation also. anyway, wondering if anyone has been, and whether you get to sample from every vendor, or how it works. i know tickets are $12, but i want to sample lots of goat.

Should be fun. I've done a nice birria de cabrito, a chile-marinated goat dish that is in Rick Bayless' cookbook. It was outstanding.

My deer lease is just outside of Brady and I've always wanted to go to the goat cook off. There was a fight at it a year or two ago that was funny to read about in the local paper. A guy had been causing problems throughout the day as he got progressively drunker. He ended up getting in to a fight with the cops and his mom even joined in and jumped on one of the cops' back. I imagine it looked a lot like an episode of Reno 911.

yep. I've got some land near Mullin. Actually I think those are sheep. Which I guess begs the question, do people eat adult sheep? I can see the market for lamb, but mutton? Hell, what do I care. As long as it keeps the taxes low.

One of the guys at our tailgate is a judge for the Goat Cook Off. He usually spends Friday and Saturday AM in Brady before heading to Austin for the tailgate and game. He always has a few containers from the winners for us.

CleverNickname. I used to work in Mullin actually. I was appointed as the Pastor at the small Methodist Church there. I know exactly where Mullin is. Sorry, I just don't run into many who have ever heard of Mullin.

I am from Brady. I went to the first WCBBQGCO in years last year and had fun, mainly because I saw some friends I hadn't seen in forever. Like most cookoffs, the fun is Friday night when everyone stays up and gets drunk. Saturday, it is hot and dusty with no wind down on the creek like the park there is. Most locals I know just go Friday night and lay up Saturday nursing hangovers.

People will usually let you sample their other food they are cooking, but the actual bbq that is submitted is in short supply.

It is not a wild as it once was. Back in the day there would be several high dollar craps games and many fights on Friday night. Good times.
