Go Horns...Beat Kansas!!!

Should be a great game. Horns have looked better as of late after that awful start to conference play. Taylor is getting back into game shape. Holmes and Ridley have both looked better. I wouldn't mind seeing Turner take over and dominate against a big time foe.

Well, I am sure a couple of the Jayhawk fans will show their faces prior to the game. Bring it on. Hopefully the FEC is rocking this Saturday.

Guard play continues to be the overwhelming issue, as it has been since Augustin left. You're not going to win on the biggest stages unless you have a backcourt that can protect the ball.

We're trying to force the square-shaped Holland into a round hole, and it's just not working. He's below-average at best, and probably would be a 4th or 5th option on most top-25 teams. He is not a PG but Barnes seems adamant on making him one. Taylor played well but not at the PG position. And when Felix/Yancy are that useless, you might as well play with a 4-man lineup.

It didn't help that KU basically took Ridley out of the game, so Turner was pressed into forcing more shots.

Kansas had someone that could hit 3's. We didn't. Unless you have someone to keep a defense honest(stretching them), scoring inside is extremely difficult. Our mid range game was actually above average I thought, in that both Taylor and Turner made some mid range shots. That kept us in the game the first half.

Kansas adjusted to our defense, they sent 2 to the rim--they simply made one inside pass instead of going directly to the rim, our shot blockers went for the passer leaving the receiver of the pass to dunk.

I've said this for years, Barnes tends to recruit too many players of the same type (athletic defenders) and not enough knock down shooters. Every (top)team needs at least one sharpshooter from 3 (come on in college the 3 is pretty easy).

I'm weary of the Barnes tenure. The first 10 years I was very pro-Barnes, but it is time for a change. Horns basketball seems painful (painful for both the players to play and the fans to watch). We need someone to come in and make it fun to play and watch (I'm actually missing Penders now). Barnes has done good work, but these jobs should not be lifetime jobs.

Now with all the one and dones, maybe it is just tough to have decent basketball at the college level as if you have great players, you don't have them for long, and so you are constantly trying to create a team, but they never play that much together to really become a team. Still, while we could do a lot worse than Barnes, we can do better as well. Personally, I haven't believed we can win the conference, the conference tourney, or go further than suite 16 (at best), for quite a while and I see no evidence to have that expectation in the future. That is sad.

Kansas was just a better coached team. They actually run an offense and have players that can shoot from the outside. Barnes does not have a clue about offense and recruits athletes who can't shoot. Do not see Texas winning anything for a long time.

OK, I know I am of the minority here, but I don't know what was wrong with the starting lineup from last year. I think Holmes would be much better at power forward where he could go more into beast mode. And...wait for it...I would like to see Felix back in the starting lineup. I just think he is having a hard time getting into the flow of the game coming off the bench. He had actually been the Horns most consistent scoring threat the last two years. But, again, I know I am in the minority on that one. I just like his game for the most part. Hope the game on Monday does not get ugly...could have an affect on the rest of the season.

In a perfect world I could see Tom Crean doing what Tom Penders once did and ignite a little interest in Texas hoops. Crean is the inverse of Barnes. He has guards and knows to employ the running game and high ball screen dribble drive. Then IU hires Brad Stevens and my world is happy. Crean's defense is sieve-like but he does have shooters!
