Gmail spam filter?

I generally love Gmail, but my spam filter has been receiving an extraordinary amount of spam lately.

On an average day, it will catch 20-40 or so messages per day.

Yesterday, it caught 5,000.

Today, it caught 12,000.

Is this happening to anyone else?

No. Stop using that account when browsing porn sites.

Mine averages 10 per day.

But that's the thing...I've had the account for 5 years and have never had this problem. I never use it for gimmicky stuff. I have a bogus one that I use for the xbox.

Like I said, this has only been happening the last couple of days.

Ok, I just checked my gmail account. 44 spam emails over the past 7 days. This is my primary mail account and have had it for years.

Do you list that email address on any websites (like this one) as your contact?

Do you use it for everyday emails?

Either of those cases could get it exposed to a data miner or spyware.

Or have you seriously pissed anyone off lately?

That's the easiest way for an email to suddenly receive a ton of spam...

i've had my account for several years and just noticed a significant spike in spam the past few weeks. i NEVER use my gmail account for shopping, etc, i use a hotmail account for that.

I'm in the same boat as others. Never use it except to give it to friends and family, but have gotten a ton of spam in the last month. Went from nothing to about 10 a day or so. Weird.

mine has been the opposite

I was getting like 40 a day on gmail and now its like 10

regardless their spam filter is outstanding and I rarely actually get anything in my inbox. it catches everything and puts it in the spam box. not a big deal

I should have mentioned that I have both a Gmail and Yahoo mail account. The Gmail gets almost no spam, and the filter catches virtually all of it.

My Yahoo account gets a shitload of spam (easily 200 - 300 a day - not the 10000 someone mentioned, but still a lot), and the filter catches most, but not all, of it.

One thing that may have gotten some of you that only give out your email to friends and family is if they gave out your email to one of those Joke or Prayer or Picture or Saying of the day sites, those are notorious for selling email addresses to scumbag errrr... spammers

My dad did that with my work email, and I finally had to get my employer to give me a new one, because I was getting so much crap.
