Things brewing at the Olympics... a photo caption: "U.S. runner Sanya Richards-Ross is part of a campaign demanding changes in Olympic social media rules."

Olympians take a stand against draconian measures to regulate social media. I'll bet that female athlete from Greece is happy to hear this after she got booted, although her offense was in the area of inappropriate statement regards race, while this other is about various uses not related to that kind of thing.

It just raises the question of whether any organization can regulate speech. If it infringes on right to work and livelihood I wonder when a legal battle over human rights will surface.

I know this is a ridiculous suggestion but the Olympics just come once every four years. Can't they just get off Twitter and Face Book and whatever until after their events are over or better yet after the Olympics are over?

^^^
Agree. If they want to show some love for their sponsors, let them social media to their hearts' content once they are over - offer thanks at that point, but not during the games.

I would follow Sonya anywhere.

I'm glad this is so much more of a pressing matter than say world hunger, slavery, a crumbling Indian infrastructure or Spain's huge debt problem. In other words, "Who gives a rat's ***?".

If I were a sponsor of an Olympic athlete, this is what I would say:

Focus on winning your event instead of a fight you can't win. Winning gold is the most important thing, because then I can plaster "sponsor of Olympic gold medal-winning athlete" all over my promotional materials. This will increase my sales. And it can't happen if you get disqualified. Straighten up and compete and quit worrying about pimping me."

You'd be pissed off if you were a major Olympic Games sponsor paying for exclusivity and a competitor is stealing your thunder when all they did was sponsor a single athlete.

Then the sponsor is an idiot, they could have done the same thing and they chose a different route. Next time they will know and the Olympics will have to figure out a new marketing strategy.

Yea, I guess it's stupid to sign a contract that gives you exclusive rights in exchange for a butt load of $$$$$. The IOC decides what brands represent the Games. I guess you haven't noticed that some logos on athletes apparel have been covered up.

It's not any different with NASCAR, the NFL, UT, etc.

Now it's time for the Ross'es to go back to Austin and get on program - produce atleast 2 boys of world class multi sport athletes and another girl with Sonya's talents, Any further additions will be under the bonus category!
