Glad Sark reads Horn Fans!

If Worthy doesnt turn the ball over on the first series of the second half I am pretty sure Texas rolls. Then every freaking series after with the multiple false starts always had Horns behind the chains. It was like Texas was trying to find ways to make things as difficult as possible.

the lame, predictable play calling on 3rd & short situations truly makes me wanna punch a hole in the wall.

we do some nice things every now & then, but not when it matters most.

I honestly do get what Sark is trying to do. He's got the best RB in the country and he knows that's what he needs to lean on with a lead. But at some point, when you've got nine defenders in the box, you can't just run back to back and expect to move the chains. I will say that the fumble by Worthy exacerbated the issue and if that doesn't happen, maybe we're not having this conversation. But at going from 31 first half points to three second half points is inexcusable.

Good news is it's unlikely we'll be up that much against Baylor and TCU (and maybe Kansas) so he may feel forced to keep the pressure on offensively.

Couldn’t check HF during the game because I didn’t get FS1 at my hotel (FL) so I had to stream from the phone. Anyway…

While I wasn’t thrilled with some of the playcalling in the second half — and as others have mentioned, forcing the run against a 9-man front — like all of us, I feared a repeat of every second half but one we have seen under Sark on the road. In this game, virtually every break in the second half that could have gone their way, did. Aside from Worthy‘s fumble, when have we seen the ball on the ground (caused fumbles) at critical times and simply through serendipity, it didn’t bounce our way? That was unbelievable. To that, add the three illegal motion penalties and it appeared that the football Gods were simply not going to let us win.

I was very impressed by the defensive effort late in the game though. Sometimes even with a three-man rush, we were getting considerable pressure.

We deserve to win this game, and we did. For a heart health standpoint going forward though, I would prefer a little less stress.

One question: By any chance did PK hold Murphy back in the first half to keep him fresh late in the game? I ask because while all of the lineman played well late, Murphy seemed to be bull rushing constantly.

suggestion:
let Sark coach the first half of remaining games and let another coach be the head coach of the second half.
or
I vote let worsterman coach the second halves.
it can't be worse

When he texted me a moment ago I asked him and he confirmed your suspicion. Well done, dukesteer.

Sark needs to work on his composure. Looked approximately as stressed as I did when Kansas State pulled within a touchdown.

Why Herman drove me crazy. We always ran Sam power right. Always. After his freshman year teams figured it out and we'd get stoned on 4th and 1. Play action is going to be wide open. Trust your players and take what the defense gives. This whole "we need to impose our will is utter BS". If a team is in a 9 man front, then go play action. The fact they're in a 9 man front is because we've already imposed our will. But don't beat your head into a wall. If you make a D one dimensional then take advantage of that. Good lord it's not that complicated.

Go watch the 90's Cowboys. Teams put 7 in the box they ran Emmitt all day. Put 8 in the box and they had WR, FB, TE, and RB all to throw to. But Aikman was a master at taking what the D gave him and not forcing bad matchups.

This team is close to top 10 material. Just need to punch through with a little more growth.

Anyone else notice Sark trying to help coach up the D on the last KState drive? Don't think I've seen him do that before.
I noticed too. Maybe he has done it before and just never shown on broadcast. But was nice to see. He’s said he has started to help breakdown opposing offensive strategy more this year.

I'm not giving Sark credit for anything until the team can run 3 plays w/o a false start and the DB's are taught to cover the WR that happens run into your zone.

Glad we won. It was stressful which is weird because it's just a game but my wife (a lifetime Longhorn) and I were fully invested. A couple things I posted on my FB page in the second half:

"It appears that the longhorns believe a zone defense means if someone comes into your zone you should move away from them and by all means not turn it into a man to man situation."

"Also tackling appears to be optional."

The play calling in the second half did appear to be based upon a stubborn insistence (is that redundant) on running the ball. But that pitch out on 3rd down to the short-side of the field was very frustrating. It was a critical point in the game and I wondered why the offensive guru didn't have some amazing play up his sleeve knowing he'd drawn the K-State defense in towards the overwhelming tendency we'd displayed to run the ball.

It was my impression we had some major busts in the secondary and that our linebackers dropped too far into coverage as Vaughn (who obviously was going to get the ball on a dump-off) was wide open. It was hard to understand what was happening.

The fumbles we cause but could not recover were excruciating. My wife now knows what a pre-snap penalty is. Hard core football and she started picking up on it.

Ewers seemed to drop some dimes in there at times. He has the capability but he's just inconsistent right now. It may be that simple; he's a young guy who hasn't played much.

This was the 13th ranked team in the country who SHUT OUT Okie State last week, though they now appear to be in a free fall. And we were on the road. Regardless of the stress we won the game.

It's just ugly watching the sausage being made. Imagine how the K-State fans feel.

Isn't it amazing how many posts made here seem to completely overlook this fact?

I'm pretty sure everyone is happy we won but frustrated with the complete second half incompetence. We're a first half national champion and a second half conference basement dweller. We go into every single week knowing we'll probably have a big halftime lead and have to sweat it out to see if we can hold on. Who we are playing seems to be irrelevant, its ground hog day every Saturday.
