Wow what a weird and tragic ending. I was in the Air Force and remember when she made those flights thinking and hearing it was more a publicity stunt than anything else.

I remember in the early 90's they had like 3 or 4 back to back to back girls all try to be the youngest flier ever - Guiness finally stopped keeping track after an 8 or 9 year old????? girl crashed on takeoff killing herself and her father as well.

Is there something about success at such a young age that causes people to freak-out?

I wonder what it would be like to be 16-18 and think “It all goes down from here because my best years are behind me.” It has to warp your sense of life value, and I could see it leading to depression. Perhaps it goes along with a lot of child stars (prodigies & geniuses who also have depression problems) who grow up being told how great they are, but not really being able to live up to what they’ve been conditioned to believe.
