55-32 final
first 13-0 record in history of lake travis
a very good team, alice dominated considerable part of the game. unbeaten coming into this game.
lake travis had 219 rushing yds and 233 passing.
gilbert, very effective running the ball, carried 13 times for 121 yds, 5 td's.
he connected on 12 of 24 attempts for 233 yds.
in three playoff games, garrett has run for 15 scores.
i believe the announcer said he was lake travis' top running back tonight. he said garrett has improved all season as a runner to become a very significant running threat.
When I was in HS, a far, far galaxy ago, we played Alice, in Alice, for state quarter finals. It was a night game and when we showed up on the field, we noticed they had about 2 stadium lights. It was dark in there! At any rate, they had a fine little, fast QB. We lost 16-12...
I saw the game and Gilbert was impressive.
He is physically mature (more so than colt was last year)
he threw 2 TD's 50 yds in the air
he would have had 150 yds rushing if it wasn't for 1 sack and 5 kneel downs in the shot gun formation.
Kids doesn't get rattled, he's tough and he has football smarts.
I remember when people on here were saying that UT would never allow a HS game at DKR anymore since it messed up the field un-necessarily. I knew they would open it up if a big time recruit made it deep in the playoffs. I may have to mosey on down there this weekend.
For those of you going to an LT game for the first time, be sure to watch UT commit Paden Kelly, #70 OLT. When we are playing a team that starts moving the ball up the middle, coach Morris puts him on the d-line as a stopper. Quite effective.
Speaking of Westlake, I wonder if their running back Ryan Swope is having second thoughts about going to aggy. I would LOVE to see Gilbert handing off to him next year. That guy is an amazing combination of size, strength and speed.
