Wife's dad is turning 70 - he is mega rich.

What can I get him? Money is no object but he won't be impressed by how much anything costs so i dont want to spend money just to spend it.

He is chinese, speaks no english, and likes golf and horse racing.

What can I get him that will be notable?

I already gave him a grandson.

It depends on how much he really likes Golf and Horse Racing. If Golf is just a hobby then focus on racing, or the other way around.

Find something symbolic tied to Affirmed or a famous horse. Or, find something associated with Tiger Woods or a golfer he likes. Maybe something signed or that will make his friends oooh and ah.

BBQ for him for his birthday and lay it on him. Just an idea.

Ooooh, how about flying him to Pebble Beach to play a round or few. Maybe hit up a week of Golf in the States or the UK?

Pebble Beach

...and they have a spa there for his lovely wife.

or not...

Not to derail the thread, but I think l00p just wants you to bring him to the States in the hope that he brings an asian princess with him.

There is no answer to this puzzle.

Perhaps a photoshoot wih a very good photographer with him and your family, good enough to create a memorable large framed image that will go in his home office. (At a cool place such as Victoria Peak).

he wont travel so pebble beach is out and I should have said - the gift cannot imply obligation - which he will resent and a trip to pebble beach would be that (he can just book it himself if he wants)

Book idea is good but he only reads chinese so wtf do i know about that.

Photo idea is interesting. I'll ask the wife.

Keep them coming

This reminds me of a joke.
Q: What do you give a man who has everything?
A: IV antibiotics. Yuck, yuck.

But seriously folks. From the answer above I am reminded that I once received a "Fruit of the month" gift and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Of course I was a poor student on a bad diet at the time so he may not enjoy it as much. I guess the key is to find something he could easily afford but not normally buy. And the "____ of the month" idea can provide an unusual variety of interesting tastes.

Here is a link to some signed memorabilia of Affirmed. Stuff like photos from the Kentucky Derby, etc. Not signed by the Horse, of course, of course.

Highly recommended by loop. He says you can never have enough of this.

He finds this notable at any age.

A nice digital photo frame loaded with hundreds of pictures you think he'd like. Sounds cheesy and yes it'll just sit on a shelf, but I bet he'll get more enjoyment from that than just about anything.

I don't know him and you do...so I can't suggest anything specific...however...I would try to find something that he can afford but would never ever think of. The brisket idea is good...but you know him...so find something he would never ever ever ever think of.

The digital photo frame is a great idea. I did it for my parents. I'm a little irritated thought that instead of leaving it on and letting it roll forever, they just turn it on when they have visitors and roll through it like a slide show.

If the guy has everything and doesn't really need material things, how about something like:
The Link

Get something in his name that will help some really poor people in other parts of the world.

I went with the photo shoot (thanks) and he was pleased. Chinese peeps are evidently into generation pics so we have 4 gens in the phot incl my son (Vince).

VYFan for the win. For your prize you get to watch VY play for Green Bay Friday night. Here's to him crushing it.
