gf wants another dog

we live together in a duplex and she wants another dog. we have 2 small dogs (chihuahuas) and she wants a big dog to run with and go to the greenbelt with. she also wants a pound dog. any advice here?

she's in love right now with a border collie/sharpei mix that is very sweet...but i just really don't like border collies. it's not as much don't like as i don't think our duplex is a good place for a border collie or border collie mix right now i'm home all day b/c i'm not working...but that will change at some point (i hope).

Isn't there some kind of city ordinance on how many dogs / cats you can have? 3 seems like a lot to me. I have one, work from home, and I still think I neglect him. Then I remember he's just a dog.

well we do plan to buy a house as the next place we live after this duplex. the small ones are really no trouble, they keep eachother company and get enough exercise running around inside.

and i don't think dumping her is going to work

A beagle would be a good medium-size dog to take running around. They require a lot of exercise (2-3 miles) a day, but if you satisfy that, they'll probably live easier in an apartment or duplex. Plus, they aren't very big, and they're very well-tempered and are less likely to eat the rat dogs.

well, good news...for me at least. nipped the new dog in the bud for now. when we move into a house with a yard that we own maybe we'll revisit, but that's probably close to a year down the line.
