I was not expecting mine till Wednesday the 22nd but it arrived tonight. I charged the battery in earlier before going out and just switched the SIM cards. So far, so good but I am having to go page by page sometimes. But I do have the alarm set to wake me up tomorrow morning, I hope. I have my regular alarm as a back up but that has a snooze bar which is deadly.

This is going to be fun!

Check your mail, g.

please keep posting your experiences as you go along for the next 2-3 days. and maybe a full review when you are satisfactorily acquainted with the device. thanks.

I guess I missed the pre-pre- deadline to pre-order...

I checked UPS tracking and no record of mine being shipped. I checked my account and it said Nov 11th as a prelim. ship date.

I wanted to get it bc Im going out of the country on Thursday, but oh well. Maybe I will be a little less attractive to foreign "bad guys" holding the "t-rex"

Love it, typing on it now. Sooo far so good.

I think it is thinner than the iphone but maybe a bit longer. I am just going by having limited face time with one. Those are great phones, however, and I think both have their strong and weak points. The G1 may be lighter, I don't know.

I am liking it just fine, so far.

It is thinner, but heavier.

I've been following this, because my English students program stuff for a company that supplies cell phones to dealers. (Not drug dealers, cell phone dealers)

My students program using open source software and so about half of them were interested with the articles. A couple liked the idea of the Blackberry Storm. And my gay vegetarian Apple Computer loving student (all true adjectives) still would go with the iPhone 8 days a week.

It seems like the phone has potential, but so does a canvas and a bunch of paints and brushes before Picasso or Monet or ... went to work.

The phone is basically a blank canvas inviting programmers to make all kinds of apps. But it's an interesting concept... and it has a REAL keyboard.

I am liking the keyboard quite a bit. To this day if I see an iphone I think, "cool phone". I will do the same with the G1. I look forward to personalizing and customizing it. I did not find it heavy or cumbersome in pocket.

Don't rush out to get the accessories coming out in the next couple of weeks. I am sure other companies will offer items at a better price than the initial ones. I do like the pocket charger for things like plane flights and other things when a computer (to charge with usb ports) or electrical outlet (uses a usb port and typical plug) are not handy.

An app. I like is the bar code reader. Tells you about the product, just about any product. There are some issues with it now but it will improve.

I love being able to get any song and either play it as long as the network will let you (voice mail sets in) or just snippets at your choosing. I am sure this is something iphone people have as well with no problem but it is a first for me. Neat, neat, neat.

I agree. They don't pull crap llke that in europe from what I have heard and read. This thing is fun!

In Europe, you shop for the phone, then shop for the plan/carrier. You also don't get $19.95 phones in Europe, because they aren't tied to a 2 year contract. They've also been on a standard network for years, so all phones are made with the same communication protocols, and because of that, they've had rather advanced for quite some time.

iPhone is 115.5mmH x 62.1mmW x 12.3mmT

G1 is 117.7mmH x 55.7mmW x 17.1mmT

so it is taller, narrower, and thicker than the iPhone.

My roomie just got one two days ago. Cool phone. Definitely more bulky than iPhone, but probably won't need a case like the iPhone does. Android seems to work well. Needs a touch qwerty. Having to flip the keyboard out to do all the typing isn't always the most convenient IMO.

G1: $179.99

iPhone: $199.99

The media package is comparable between the two, if not slightly in the G1's favor.

This phone is wicked. I am sure I feel the way iphone people felt 2 weeks in. Amazed, confused and sometimes flat out in awe. I don't know 1/10th of what this phone does and it is already more than enough.

The help and discussion forums by TMobile and other ones are a blessing. I have not even bothered tapping into the applications, of which there are boatloads for free, but those are coming. I want to have good command over it before I bling it out.

For online things it is really fast. Faster than I hoped or thought it would be. I used the GPS and maps features yesterday trying to find the party I am going to in a few minutes. Very nice. Though it is spooky that I can be located so quickly with it. Then again, that may be to my benefit in the future. I don't plan on ever being on the run so no biggie if "Big Brother" can track me.

But yeah, wicked phone. Now I know why the iphone people were and are so giddy all the time.

I have not had one dropped call. I did move from 3G to Edge, which slowed my internet connection a fraction but not anything really noticeable. I happened to be looking at the icon when it changed.

All phones and all companies have dropped calls, though some phones are a bit more problematic, I guess. I used to drop calls on my Samsung but I found out it was because my cheekbone would hit the end button by accident. So I really don't know how often I truly dropped a call with it.

But no, no dropped calls in the two weeks I have had the phone. That is not enough time, imho, to judge it. I love this phone. I never thought I would ever say that. If something were to happen to it and the insurance did not cover it, I would replace it in a heartbeat without even looking at what else is around.

Awesome. I just spoke to a T-Mobile rep on the phone and I was able to get a for $179. My contract isn't up until June 09, but I was able to get this offer because I've been with them for five years. I can't wait until I get it this coming week.

Hit up the forums listed in an earlier post in this thread. They are the T-Mo forums and are very helpful. Notice that just about every single gripe somebody has is something they did wrong or something they did not figure out yet. That or something they expected that was unreasonable. I recall seeing similiar in the iPhone forums when I browsed them.

But you may pick up some tips and shortcuts/app's to make your initiation more fun and better. Pay attention to the shortcuts or tips for longer battery life as well. They work. I am very happy with the output in that area I am getting.

got one. it's awesome.
my battery drains at light speed though. is it possible i'm leaving something open that's doing that or do i need to take it in??
i always seem to have it on a standby mode when it's not in use...?????

Yes, you have maybe the GPS or satellites enabled? Check that. The forums listed have ways to save your battery. Also, adjust your brightness. I do fine about halfway.

I get anywhere from two to three days from a full charge. With good amount of usage, a day and a half but I am very happy with that.

Are you the one who asked me about making fonts larger to read? Yes, you can and it is easy. Discovered this the other day, meant to pm.

yeah, loop - do you have that info (enlarging)??? would greatly appreciate it.
okay, i did have the gps enabled. when i read that you were getting a day and a half i nearly fainted!! i was getting half a day!!!

Just got one tonight, still playing with it to figure things out, but I'm excited about what I've seen so far.

I played with Shazam last night, awesome app. I see now why my iphone friends love it too. I tried to stump it with some tunes from the 40s, nailed them. Then a dj mix, nailed those too.

There were a few tunes that Shazam could not name but they were instrumental with nothing identifying or unique about them during the part I had it listen to.

New G1 owners, the forums are pricelss. Use them, they help so much.
