get ready for Obamacare

This is likely a precursor to the promised land of Obamacare. All of the uncertainty from the last 4 years and it is going to be a huge money sink and failure if this is any indication.

so hilarious to watch how this has morphed from the promise of healthcare for everyone. it is looking worse and worse every few months.

Oh zork
That problem with obamacare is SO last wekk.
Today there is a NYT article on more businesses including many small businesses deciding to self insure which takes more people out of the pool of people needed to help fund the debacle.
Self insuring is attractive compared to obamacare for businesses /companies of any size with relatively young employees.

Pelosi was assuredly right but really? The Pols who voted for this were that stupid?

The sole purpose of Obamacare is to make the system so bad that a single-payer system is an improvement. It truly is that simple, and it's going to happen and won't take very long.

R35?

what is the date of the article you linked?
Is there any hard data ? Were the numbers based on state participation that has changed?

is the opinion from that article still sound?
be honest

Here is an honest question. Who picked up the $5.7 billion in savings bill? I don't expect that the drugs became cheaper overnight.

I have absolutely no doubt that the CBO took the numbers it was given and came up with the result of a deficit decrease. All the CBO does is take data supplied to it and churn out a result. If there's one thing we've learned, it's that Obama may not be able to deliver a budget, but he can deliver a set of projections that make it look like his plan will save money.

Want to know the real problem with healthcare? I will give you an example:

My son has a very rare disease, which when it has an outbreak requires a series of 3 shots, that one "dose" costs $10,000. Many times he needs an additional dose at another $10,000. Typically he has to go to the ER to have shots administered. This will cost me $50 out of pocket and $1000 to the insurance. (I have extremely good insurance.) We recently set up a home nurse to come to the house to give him the shots, which we had happen in Jan. This required the nurse to come and give him 3 shots, sit with him for an hour to a hour and half , then her work is done and she goes home or back to the office.

The charge? They sent a bill to the insurance company for $35,000, which the insurance paid $9500. For at most 1.5 hours of work. I am sorry but that is the problem in a nutshell. I don't care how you spin it, there is no way that nurse visit should have been more than $1000.

And even though my insurance paid 100% of that, I just can't justify the costs of it.

Rayug,

First of all, I am sorry to hear of your son's illness and I hope and pray the doctors find a way to heal him.

You point out the real problem with healthcare, but it is not just because the home health agency charged the obnoxious amount as if it reflected the actual cost plus a reasonable profit. The problem is that healthcare has become a shell game to cover those who do not or cannot pay.

ACA will only exacerbate this problem as the Federal government moves more and more people to Medicaid and Medicare and reimburse less than the actual cost. Providers are facing reimbursement cuts in excess of 30%, which will push more pressure on insurance companies to absorb the brunt of the costs. Ultimately, it will be passed on to those who can pay.

In my opinion, the answer is to move to a system where people must pay the actual cost of care plus a market based profit via tax free healthcare spending accounts they control. It requires a much more complex solution, but the basis lies in a self reliance principle.

Having a sick loved one while viewing the system only makes it worse.Again, prayers for healing in whatever form for your son.
