Best wishes G.

Gerry's a class act all the way and I'll be looking for his new site (if that's what he decides to do). I wish him the best.

Orangebloods is a Rivals site. Rivals has been acquired by Yahoo, hasn't it? So maybe Gerry is actually being outsourced. Maybe their next basketball recruiting guru will be based in India or China.

SLX,

Please do let us know about Gerry's new venture. I'll sign up in a heartbeat and will probably leave orangebloods as a result.

THere are also a couple other guys out there that are big in the "message board" world. These guys are HS football oriented and have a large following of subscribers. Maybe a quasi merger is in the works????

Thanks for your thoughts, SLX. Couldn't agree more. Gerry had contacts before coming to OB's and the relationship with Ketch was mutually beneficial to be sure. I wish Gerry nothing but the best and will be a loyal patron as long as he's in the biz. Please keep us updated.

p.s. I've enjoyed Gerry at the Houston Lunch Bunches. Hopefully, he won't be a stranger there.

I'm thrilled for Gerry and the new opportunity.

I'm bummed for OB though Ketch will be more than fine with his new additions and his new plans.

There is more than enough room in cyberworld for both as both are outstanding.

Couldn't agree more with SL's comments.

SLX, keep us informed. Between you and Gerry, those are the two opinions I care about for UT basketball.

Just don't believe beyond Rivals and Scouts plus what the general sports sites offer, there's a true need for more info...plus enough dollars to go around especially in this economic climate. And if basketball is his specialty, it's 1) not prominent enough in Texas compared to football and 2) doesn't offer the same need for coverage as so few players are signed every year. I wish Gerry luck, but again would question the business sense of starting a competing site to OBs...if that's what he's doing.

I appreciate your opinion, badexcuse.

Unfortunately, you're posting out of ignorance, with a lack of information at your disposal. It's not your fault. It's just the way it is.

First, college sports coverage over the internet is one of the few true growth industries. It's still a relatively nascent business, and personally, I think it continues to demonstrate there is room for more competitors out there --- as long as they're able to provide a compelling product.

Second, you simply don't have enough information as to what Gerry is going to do just yet.

Third, you obviously don't know anything about the information Gerry provides, because if anything, his specialty is high school football, and football recruiting, not basketball. Gerry has the best high school coaching network in the industry, at least when it comes to Texas high schools. As I posted above, his Dad spent a lifetime in the high school coaching ranks. Gerry talks the talk. The high school coaches trust him, which makes all the difference in the world.

Plus, Gerry is one of the only guys out there who has a true eye for talent, and can break down a player specifically into what will make him a difference maker at the next level or not.

Yes, it's true he covers basketball as well, and frankly, it would be hard to find a peer in terms of covering that sport anywhere on the internet. But he's anything but a one trick pony, as anyone who has been a subscriber of Orangebloods over the last several years --- several of whom have posted on this thread --- can attest.

Nonetheless, your opinion is appreciated. From the limited information at your disposal, I can see why you would come to that conclusion. I don't agree with it, but I understand it. Thanks for the reply.

SLX, sounds like a talented and great guy. Wish him success and best of luck. People will always seek and find quality.

When I was on Orangebloods the other day and I saw the thread I got depressed. If Gerry opens his own site, I will probably cancel my OB subscription and sign up with Gerry if his is a paid content site. The guy was awesome not only for recruiting but actual insight into the basketball program.

well you know that espn has partnered with some major sites (that wanted to be independent) such as ouinsider, and usc site. there are some others. i am sure katy and robert were approached as they are surely the biggest site left that is independent.

maybe he is going to start something with them. you know they want a texas affiliate. they have to want one.

If Gerry is involved, I'll probably pay for his site as well as OB. I love what Gerry brings, but I love what OB brings as well.

Speaking freely, Orangebloods is a piece of ****. Gerry Hamilton is/was the only good thing about the site. It makes me glad that he is leaving to open his own site. Now I can read his stuff without having to scroll through numerous posts by echeese and dizzg or Ketch's "weekend thoughts."

I've already left Orangebloods. But I will definitely sign up for Gerry's new site.

I wish GH all the good fortune in the world with whatever new venture he persues. Truly one of the (few) good guys in the business. Without question the most knowledgeable and honest.

If he does something that is competitive with OB fine and dandy. I hope he corners the market.

A little side note that some of you probably aren't aware of.

Several years ago when the internet bidness was just getting going and the recruiting fanatics were finding each other, Geoff Ketchum was a relative unknown commodity, and Katy and Robert Agnor hosted (free as usual) an end of the season recruiting extravaganza usually held at some well known Austin watering hole. They invited Ketch to show videos onf the new signees and give a pep talk on each one of them. It was resounding success, and Ketch got his ears wet and introduced to an audience and a following that he didn't have at the time.

Later Ketch caught hold with Burton and the Rivals bunch and became a very well known and well heeled recruiting "expert" for the Horns.

From time to time some board flea would go to the OB site and rant and rave and cuss about hornfans and Robert and Katy Agnor, Katy especially, and write things of the most vile nature about these two Longhorn treasures. It disturbed me at the time, many man times, and disturbs now when I'm thinking about it again, that Ketchum never came to the Agnor's defense on those pathetic rant posts. I can't recall his ever showing anything but the most mild displeasure with the idiots that maligned the Agnors on his board.

I don't like what that tells me. The Agnors were keys in setting him up in the business whether he ever acknowledges that or not.

Anyway, Godspeed to GH and whatever he does that is Longhorn related or otherwise. I'll damned sure sign up with pleasure when and if the time comes.
