Germany: Citizenship for Polygamous Migrants?

• Critics say that the bill, as it currently stands, would not only create a legal backdoor for polygamous migrants to become German citizens, but would effectively legalize the practice for Muslim immigrants. The changes would, consequently, enshrine into German law two parallel legal systems, one based on German Civil Law and another based on Islamic Sharia law.

Muslim men residing in Germany routinely bring two, three or four women from across the Muslim world to Germany, and then marry them in the presence of a Muslim cleric. Once in Germany, the women request social welfare benefits, including the cost of a separate home for themselves and for their children, on the claim of being a "single parent with children."

I think the same thing goes on here with "wives" claiming single parent benefits if they drop the anchor baby here but I hope there are no plans to make the multiple muslim marriages legal.

Feminists should be enraged and scared at the same time. If a country like Germany is willing to accept polygamy and all the female abuse that it facilitates, women have a lot to fear. Sounds like a great opportunity for Christians to protect women and their rights.

From my reading, they aren't going to recognize polygamous marriages. However, they aren't going to use them as a basis to deny asylum or citizenship to people who formed polygamous marriages before coming to Germany.

That's multiculturalism at work. It blows, but somebody has to care. Most Germans don't - not because they are ok with polygamy but because they don't want to criticize a non-Western culture. They fear being perceived as xenophobic more than they oppose polygamy.

Feminists don't actually care about the plight of individual women. They are about political power for themselves. That's why they freak out about Western oppression of women (which is almost entirely fake) and are largely indifferent to oppression of non-Western women (which is real). Making an issue of the latter doesn't give them a wedge issue or any basis to gain power because everybody in the West will just agree with them.
