German Honeymoon

I am getting married in December and going to Germany for the honeymoon from the 25th of Dec to Jan 2nd. I already have flights and all hotels booked (hopefully I get good reviews from anyone that has stayed in them) and a general game plan on what we will be doing. We know it will be cold but we still think this is going to be a bad *** trip. I love beer, food and history; the woman is more into Christmas lights, shopping, and cute looking German towns.

We will be flying into Munich actually on the 26th, around noon local time and staying at Hotel Astor:

I am sure we will limit what we do that afternoon/evening and try to catch up on sleep to fight off jet lag.

Early next morning we are going to take the train up to Koln and will be staying at the Hotel Four Points by Sheraton Central Koln:

Figured during the day do some stuff along the Rhine.

Get up the next morning (which will be a Sunday) and hit up mass at the Dom in Koln. Then tate the quick train ride to Dusseldorf. We will be staying here in Dusseldorf:

We plan on hitting up the Altstadt that evening, and drinking copious amounts of Altbier.

Get another early start the next morning and head back to Munich. Get back in time to hit up some of the bier gartens. Staying at the Hotel Royal that night:

The next morning we will be heading towards Fussen, where the famous castles are located. On the way there, hopefully we can time it so we can visit Andechs Monastery

, which is one of the oldest breweries in the world. That night make our way to Fussen and stay at:

We plan on going to the Neuschwanstein and possibly other castles that morning/early afternoon before heading back to Munich. We will be staying here for the last two night:

That is the basics that I have covered for our trip. I am open for suggestions on anything to do such as food/sights/drinking/etc. We have both been to Germany before, and I have been to both Munich and Dusseldorf/Koln before, so I should be able to get around fairly easily. I also can read and understand quite a bit of German, so any off the beaten places where that might be needed I would like to give a try.

Danke!

If you like history and specifically WWII, I'd recommend taking a trip to Dachau while you are in Munich.

Yes, it is very sad to see but i thought it was extremely amazing to see as well.

Also, i did a brewery tour in Munich as well, and that did not suck one bit.

Here is a link to the tours for each in Munich, along with other cool tours as well:

Pick out a couple of cool tours and who knows, maybe one of your freinds attending your wedding will pick up the tab for you on one of these tours.

I'll keep the brewery tour in mind.

Have also thought about Dachau. That is going to be a decision I make when I get there.

89 Euros roundtrip to Cologne or Dusseldorf and back to Mun on the days you listed.

Go to Lufthansa website and select that you are in Germany but speak English. Then search for flights.

You dont pay VAT tax in Germany for purchases over 100 euros.

How are you getting to Fussen? If you aren't taking one of the tour busses keep in mind those roads might be pretty tough during the winter. Also they don't speak much English in this area outside of the immediate tourist destinations so you'll get to use your German skills. Congrats and have a great trip.
