German Beer Gardens in Houston

Not exactly German beer gardens, however there are outdoors places and icehouses in the Heights...

Hans Bier Haus... over in West U. It's on Kirby south of Bissonnet... at Banks or Times or some such... or at least it used to be.

They also have a couple of Bocce Ball courts. We used to play Trivial Pursuit Bocce there.... you could only roll if you anwered the question correctly.

You can always drink a cold one on the back porch at the Gingerman in the village.

I second Han's. Also, the West Alabama Ice House is also a great place for outdoor drinking. While not technically a beer garden, it has great people watching and free hot dogs on Fridays.

Valhalla, the Rice grad student pub on campus, allows al fresco drinking and you can still get a big cup of Shiner or Lone Star for under $1.

The back patio behind Poison Girl on lower Westheimer will make you think you are in New Braunfels or Fredericksburg for some reason.

yep, these are the 3 that resemble a beer garden the closest in houston:

if you want to do some outdoor drinking in the heights I recommend onion creek or beer island.

Don't forget about Jimmie's Ice House in the Heights, and the Shady Tavern edging over toward the Hempstead Hwy.
