Georgetown Basketball

I've got to admit I've always had an admiration for the princeton set/offense and before John Thompson III came to Georgetown I had always wondered what that offense would look like with elite athletes in place. Win or lose I enjoy watching Georgetown on offense. Every guy seems highly skilled in mutliple phases of offense, whether it be passing, shooting, dribbling, or movement without the ball. Players all unselfishly pass at a moments notice and you rarely see a player uselessly pound the ball into the court with no purpose. Let me quickly state that this post is merely one of admiration at this style of play and is in no way meant as a comparison to our offense. I just love it and really appeciate good basketball. Having said that, the one failing of this offense and what will ultimately be to Thompson detriment is the need (or lack there of) for a high quality point guard. I sincerely doubt Thompson will ever get a truly a elite guard to buy into this offense, but he should be able to continue to recruit skilled big men.

I remember when Pete Carrill(sp?) left Princeton and joined Rick Adelman's staff in Sacremento. We were able to see the princeton offense in the NBA. While an improvement over most of the NBA offenses at the time we still weren't able to enjoy it in it's true form due to the defensive rules and the great athletes in NBA.

That was a big win tonight for the Hoyas. Chris Wright, while maybe not an elite point guard, was pretty highly touted coming out of high school. He was a McDonald's AA, three-time all-met in D.C. and a 4-star recruit according to Scout.

Having been a season-ticket holder and GU fan for many years, I can say that the JT3-coached Hoyas do have flaws -- rebounding is a big one. And sometimes they settle for early 3-pointers instead of letting the offense work. But certainly everything clicked tonight. They're a young team this season and they're only going to get better.
