Gene Hackman passed away in his New Mexico home with his wife and dog who also died. Authorities do not suspect foul play…

Maybe something with the heater and CO2 or CO….…?

RIP to a very good actor.

RIP - he was in some classics and his roles demonstrated the breadth of his talent.

French Connection
Hoosiers
The Birdcage
Crimson Tide
Young Frankenstein
A Bridge Too Far
Get Shorty
Unforgiven

Will wait to learn the story but hope nothing nefarious is involved.

Weird details
Dog in kennel . Gene on floor in mud room. Wife on floor in bathroom with bottle of pills scattered on the floor

Could one space heater emit enough carbon monoxide to be deadly throughout out a house?
Asking not refuting
I just don't know enough about gas space heaters

A fireplace could. If they were dead for a while before being found, the fire would have burned itself out.

One small space heater is an unlikely culprit.

EDIT: But if the house was very well insulated from any drafts, I could see CO levels increasing slowly over time until they became toxic.

Hate to speculate, but the fact that the dog is also dead seems to me to make a group suicide highly unlikely. The fact that his wife was found with a bunch of pills scattered is strange. Who knows, maybe she had a headache from lack of oxygen and didn't realize it, so she went to take a pain reliever like aspirin or tylenol.........?

SN Makes sense
A gas fire place if not ventilated could release enough gas. Maybe at 95 Gene forgot to open damper but either way
Very sad.
RIP

Edit to a add. They are saying the bodies were mummified

I don't understand the dynamics as well as some here might, but I heard the scene indicated they both apparently fell suddenly, which it seems CO wouldn't have caused?

Gene was in mudroom dressed to go out with sunglasses
She was in a bathroom next to a space heater
Had been dead awhile to become mummified.
Hopefully they didn't suffer.

I deleted my earlier post because I commented on misleading information.

The report says her hands and feet showed mummification, while the rest of her body showed obvious decomposition. That's not terribly unusual for relatively fresh "found" bodies. The report says they had been there "at least a day" before being found. I suspect it may have been 2 or 3 days, but there is no hard information that I have seen to support that beyond the description of her body.

I believe there were two dogs alive

By the way, the term mummified is just sensationalism. Her hands and feet were quite dehydrated, not uncommon as I mentioned before. But using dehydrated in a gossipy story doesn't have the same pizzazz as mummified.

The dogs were German Shepherds. The dead dog was first reported in a kennel then reported in closet in bathroom where wife was found.
It was reported of the 2 dogs alive one was outside and one inside near the wife.
If it was carbon monoxide why wouldn't it affect the dog found alive near the wife?
It was first reported that the worker who called it in said the door was locked. The police report said the front door was ajar with no sign of forced entry.
Very sad case no matter what.

When I posted, the source I read only said two were alive, no location specified. Thanks for the update.

Reporting is changing rapidily. The first reporting of the worker who called 911 said the worker saw A body but the door was locked. Then it was reported the worker saw 2 bodies. If the wife was at the front and Gene was back in the mud room with door locked how did the worker see both?
It ia just a very strange sad case.

An up to date account
It's certainly bizarre and there's a lot of unanswered questions. We won't know anything for sure until the autopsies are completed, and still may not know.

They most certainly died at the same time or the other would have called for help. A theory I have is that he collapsed and in a panic she ran to get pills for him. The dog was in the way so she locked him in a closet so starved. Then as she was getting the pills she collapsed and spilled the pills. The one thing that doesn't make sense though is both at the same time would mean poisoning and no CO was found. Is it possible there was CO and had dissipated? The other possible scenario is that in her panic she also had a heart attack. The odds of that I know are real small, but it's possible.

The other thing that gets me is it had been nearly 2 weeks and the daughter said we were close? My dad isn't that old and I make contact with him no more than 2 days max.

A forensic expert seems to have an opinion similar to mine. I'm just not buying the she was distraught so she took a bunch of pills and committed suicide. A Rx of just about any type would take at least an hour to kill and no mention of cyanide or fentanyl.

A person doesn't take a bunch of pills and stand in the same place in in a bathroom for hours, they go lie down.
