My wife had some dental work done in 2006 and she was offered no interest financing through CareCredit, which is apparently GE Money Bank. We set up automatic payments and the agreement was that interest would be deferred until December 2008.
In late August 2008, we decided we wanted to just go ahead and pay it off and submitted a payment online for the full amount from our Emigrant Direct account. We received an email confirming our payment had been submitted. We never received anything indicating that payment was ultimately rejected, but we later learned it was.
When I noticed a debit from my bank account in early September, I didn't think it was anything and that they were still processing our payment in full. That payment went through on September 4, 2008. On September 10, 2008, for absolutely no reason that I can figure out, they reversed that payment.
As we live in Houston, we evacuated on the 11th and didn't have power at our house until the 26th. Soon thereafter, we discovered the reversal and made arrangements to make another payment. Again, the payment was processed and then reversed a few days later for no reason.
At that point, my wife called and explained what was going on and she agreed to go ahead and make payments for 3 times what we were making previously, in a good faith effort to deal with them.
When we received our November statement, we noticed they had applied the deferred interest to our account, which added $1800 to a 2400 balance. We called several times and asked for supervisors. We were ultimately told to contact Presidential Correspondence by mail in El Paso.
I sent a certified letter in mid November, in which I explained our situation and offered to pay the principal in full. I got the green card back in early December and they have not responded in any way to my letter.
My question now is what the heck can I do to avoid the interest? I'm not getting anywhere by talking to the customer service representatives who tell us its our responsibility to make payments and I can't get a response from the people we are supposed to be dealing with.
Anybody got any suggestions or have a friend I can get in touch with?
