gas vs electric stove?

I've had gas stoves/ovens in my previous and current house. We're looking at a new house and my wife has settled on one but it's electric stove/oven. Should I let this be a deal killer for me? Someone convince me electric over gas.

I have heard that electric ovens heat more evenly and are better for baking but I love having an open flame on the stove top. I do think electric is safer for the kids in the long run but I'd hate to say no to my wife over something that I might be over analyzing..

I prefer a gas stove as well, but it shouldn't be a deal breaker. Does the house have gas service? If so, then you can always install a gas stove.

that's the prob, the way the kitchen is backed up to one of the bedrooms, i dont think we can run gas lines into it...

Electric stoves are nice in some ways. They can boil water really fast. The thing they are not good at is changing temperatures quickly, but you can usually move pans around to get them quickly on/off heat. Electrics take a while to get to know, since you can't just look at the flame and tell how much heat you're getting. But you'll get used to it either way, and it shouldn't stop you from making some fantastic food.

I love gas cook tops but now prefer the electric/convection oven.

This is not something I would let decide which house to buy though unless the choices were equal in all other respects.

If the house has gas, I can't believe they didn't provide a gas connection at the range location, even if there is an electric range installed. I also don't understand what the bed room proximity has to do with adding a gas line. If there is access from the attic, and a gas line to tap into, it should not be a problem.

I'm also in the gas cooktop/electric oven crowd.

the other issue is the stove top is on an "island", so it's not against the wall, so the attic wouldn't work either. I think we're SOL on a gas stove. But I did just find out the house has gas service....

If there is a gas bib under the island top then retrofitting with a gas cook top is relatively easy.

If there isn't it would require digging up concrete to get a gas line to an island or moving the location of the cook top. In other words, just stay with electric.

gas cooktop and electric convection oven. Here's waht we have-

If you ahve gas you can run it into any wall, if you have a little crawl space access up top. Ours needs 220 electrical to run the two ovens and the convection fan. But the gas cook top is money. 16,000 btu big burner and a small burner that goes low enough to do chocolate without a double boiler.

IF for some reason you cannot get gas in the cooktop that ******* sucks. I would bet there is a gas bib at Tx Ed said. could be tucked up under that back of things.

I will give you a couple suggestions- since you are going for a wall oven, go for a convection unit and if possible an advantium style oven/microwave. Read up on these, they are great. I had one I bought but ultimately the math did not work and I went with the double oven slide in above.

Secondly- the beauty of gas is the ability to instantly control the temp and to visually see the flame. However,if you CANNOT get gas VERY SERIOUSLY consdier spending the extra money on a induction cooktop. basically most of the gas benefits except with electricity, though more expensive the technology is very slick.

I have an electric stove in the kitchen, just the way the sellers did it when they flipped our house. Id prefer to cook on gas rather than electric but we have a side burner on our gas grill so we kinda have both options. I actually prefer to use that stove outside in the summer so it doesn't make our kitchen so hot.
