Gary Johnson on the Issues

He's the only candidate who a) makes sense and b) has core convictions that can't be altered by whatever is seen as popular at the moment. His record speaks for itself.

What's not to love?

There's a lot to like about him. However, he can't win (which doesn't mean you shouldn't vote for him). In addition, I don't mind a candidate who supports pot legalization, but I don't particularly want one who looks like a pothead. The guy frequently looks like a sloth, even in public.

Voting for Gary Johnson would feel a little too much like voting for Gary Busey.

He was my guy from the start. I also like how he goes about pot legalization. How he explains it, the reasons behind it and such make sense and goes beyond just saying it should be legal. His position on immigration is sound too. He is too sensible for many people, I fear.

Views are only one of the qualities of being a good president. Besides his dress, behavior, and general attitude towards running, I don't feel GJ would make a good leader.

It is kind of how you may feel about Jimmy Carter. He is a likeable person and has sound liberal ideals and follows his conviction. However, he was a horrible president and leader of this country.

And from an apologist viewpoint, Gary Johnson would simply weaken the chances of effecting change. We currently have one of the worst presidents in my lifetime in office. We have a Dem Senate and a Pub House. In order to reverse the course of events, a Pub Senate, House, and Pres is necessary. The only way that occurs is with Romney at the helm. And is that really a bad thing? He is 100s of times better than McCain who in retrospect was 1000X better than Obama. For those keeping score that makes Romney 100,000X better than Obama.

Let us take the economy for example. What would Obama do to strengthen our economy? What would Romney do to strengthen our economy? Now let us go to the other issues that really matter. What would Obama do if a bill passed by a Pub congress that fixes the abomination that is the ACA reaches his desk? What would Romney do? Now take the other issues that matter. Crickets chirping.

Johnson is the way republicans were, BEFORE the tea party clowns took over. We can thank McCain for giving us Palin and her followers, all of whom are unburdened by brightness. Gary is a good, reasonable guy with convictions.

Sadly we elect the best campaigner, not the best President. See 2008. Our President never quits campaigning because that is all he knows.

I don't know how many times that people let Facts get in the way. Federal Debt from 2001-2007:

2001 133
2002 421
2003 570
2004 596
2005 539
2006 575
2007 500
2008 1,018

But don't let facts get in your way.

GJ should move to Texas and run for Governor.

If not him, then may Elmo or Bert. It's time for a change.

About the only view of GJ's that I disagree with (from what I've read, and I make no claim of possessing knowledge of all GJ's views) is allowing for the execution of 14 year-olds.

Roger,

I'm not sure why you'd like Johnson. He's not a social conservative like a lot of Tea Partiers, but on fiscal issues, the Tea Party is closer to Obama than Johnson is.

He is for an immediate balanced budget done entirely through spending cuts. Not only is he for repealing Obamacare, he's for block granting Medicare. The Tea Party is to the Left of Johnson on both issues.

Of course, he's Ron Paul on foreign policy, so he'd stop support of Israel. A lot of the Tea Partiers are John Hagee wingnuts on Israel (not wingnut for supporting Israel but wingnut for thinking there is religious significance to it). Other than the Iraq War, they're probably closer to you on foreign policy than Johnson is.

The guy has an interesting collection of opinions on the most popular topics. I compared his views to mine and I suppose you can understand as much about me as Gary. When I add up the tally marks, the cons outweigh the pros.

Differs from me:
Legalize prostitution
Immediate 43% cut in budget primarily from entitlements and defense (cuts are needed but that is pretty drastic)
Eliminate corporate tax (mildly against this)
Supports the OWS group
Legalize illegal drugs (more specifically pot but he has made broader claims that might imply additional drugs)
Believes in prescriptions for heroin
No waterboarding under any circumstances (its the last part where we differ. I can imagine scenarios where it could be warranted on foreign enemies)
"Open the border; a flood of Mexicans would become taxpayers" (some would be tax payers, but I don't think this is in the best interest of the American public)
Cut all support to Israel
No military threat from Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, nor Libya (I'm not sure how he came to this conclusion)

I agree with:
Don't require insurers to provide free birth control
Abolish Department of Education
Believes in student vouchers
Against cap and trade
No foreign aid spending unless it protects U.S. interests
Abolish TSA
Let the Patriot Act expire
Reform all entitlements, including Social Security
Open to personal accounts for SS
Get rid of income tax and instead use FairTax
We wiped out al Qaeda 10 years ago; leave Afghanistan

"Libertarian vice presidential nominee Bill Weld says Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign is behind the rumors he may abandon his running mate, Gary Johnson, and endorse her instead.

“That was completely planted by the Clinton campaign,” the former GOP governor of Massachusetts said on Boston Herald Radio Monday.

Weld said he had recently received over two dozen email and phone messages warning him against inadvertently helping the Republican nominee reach the White House.

“[They were] saying, ‘Unless you renounce your candidacy immediately, you will spoil this and elect Donald Trump,’” he said.

“’You’ll go down in history as a complete pariah and your name with be a hissing and a by-word, and your family will live in disgrace forever........’”

For my money, Gary Johnson is the only "real" candidate left in this election. He makes missteps then owns them. His views are generally consistent with his past, unlike HRC and Trump who have taken radical shifts from previous stances for political expediency. Johnson is "goofy" but he is genuine.

So join me and vote for the guy.

He lost any chance of my vote when he said Hillary was a wonderful public servant. WTF? How does any libertarian ever think that? If I am going to cast a protest vote, it's not going to be for a pothead that praises Hillary Clinton.
