Looking at the Genie and Chamberlain models. I plan to have it installed by a pro as I tend to screw things up that are mechanical in nature. Can anyone with experience offer a recommendation?

I've owned a Chamberlain screw type drive system for about 5-6 years and have had no problems. Never owned a Genie so I can't comment. I installed it myself and it really wasn't a big deal, just about 4-5 hours.

I've got a Craftsman and a Genie (3 car garage) and they work just fine. The Genie's been on for about 15 years. Installed the Craftsman myself about 6 months ago. They're pretty simple to install but it is a tedious job. We're talking 4 to 5 hours.

I got a Chamberlain Whisper Drive opener about 4 years ago. It is a belt drive and it is very quiet. I have not had any problems with it so far.

Also, whatever you buy, go for a model that has a outdoor keypad. I have found that to be a very nice feature if you ever do much opening/closing the door when you are not in the car.

Genie Excellerator - it opens at twice the speed of a normal opener, closes at normal speed. Screw drive, really quiet, no problems in 2 yrs
