What kind of maintenance does the spring on a garage door need. Does it need oiling every once in a while? If so, are we talking WD40?

When I had my door installed years ago, the installer told me to use either Liquid Wrench, 3-in-1 Oil to lubricate the hinges and the bearings in the roller wheels. I use WD-40 on the spring because the spring is large and it is easier to spray it. I was told to do it every 6 months, but I usually do it once a year.
