Galveston

Im thinking of taking the family to Galveston in October for a few days.
- Is it still messed up from the hurricaine?
- Is it typically warm enough to get in a day at the beach there in October?
- Any recommendations on a moderately priced place to stay (3 adults, 1 toddler)?
- Any restaurant recommendations?

The beachfront is not too bad from the storm. The Strand and historical dist are still a good ways from normal.

Yes, October is tyically one of the best weather months in Galveston. The clear water is usually much closer to shore than in summer months.

There are some mid-price chains there. eg Hampton Inn Holiday Inn Express, etc.

Resturants: Willy G's is always good, Clary's, Gaido's, Cafe Michael Burger was in Texas Monthly's 50 Best Burgers in TX last month, El Gusto on Broadway for MX food-breakfast, Sonny's Place on 19th for local flavor.

I flew over Galveston last week en route from central America.

Galveston proper looks to be in pretty good shape. There are no words to adequately describe Point Bolivar, though. "Barren" does not do it justice. Seeing it made me truly sad.

Galveston is alive & well! For some really good food with reasonable prices (frequented by the locals) try Shrimp n' Stuff (39th St. & Ave. O); Benno's (on the Seawall-also seafood); The Original (Mexican food) (14th St. & Post Office St.) and The Spot (on the Seawall) has good burgers (altho a little pricey).... Miller's Landing (Seawall) is also good....mostly seafood but they have other stuff too....

I recommend you check the room prices @ San Luis Resort....they should be offering off-season rates in Oct. and your family will love the pool and slide...
