Damn that has to hurt!!!! I really appreciate him being such a competitor and the heart and guts it takes to play in his physical condition but this could get dangerous. I know he will play in this game because we need him and it is so close, but he has got to try and sit the next three unless we are down in the second half. I know we can't take the next three lightly, but win or lose tonight he has got to get that thing better before the tourney or he could seriously mess his *** up. Sit the nose, let it heal without being re-broken for two weeks and then play in the big 12 tourney, but that is just my opinion and I am a lawyer not a doctor.
 
It's dangerous because it is taking one of our big men out of the game. We need production from Johnson, not drips of blood all over the bench.

That face mask seems to be worthless. Although he did get whacked straight in the face...
 
I haven't seen that specific mask before but the clear kind like I have seen and worn take all of the pressure away from the nose so if you got punched right in the nose the force would be felt on the sides and forehead.

Broken nose or no, G.J. has been meeting the hype of late. The dude has been flat-out bringing it. EVERYONE on the team is playing better, but G.J. has improved by leaps and bounds since January.

I just wish he'd hit those free throws ...

He is absolutely essential to our team defense and rebounding. And tonight is the first time he's been hurt since wearing the mask, and he took a BLAST.

And there's no reason to sit him....its broken, not just gonna get better with rest.
 
I've noticed his mask doesn't come below the nose like Rip's does. The couple of times he's been hit in the nose, it seems like it comes in from under. Maybe we should find him one like that.

Note: I realize Gary had a new mask tonight, but I couldn't find a pic, and the new one was only above the nose too.

I've got to hand it to the guys around here who were ranting and raving about how much of a 'gamer' and 'hustler' GJ is before he ever played a game here. I remember someone saying something to the effect of, "He's got a motor that never ends and plays with more intensity than the other 9 guys on the court combined..."

Anyway, he is a tough, physical player who literally spills blood for this school every time he goes out on the court.

Am I the only one that thought that KSU player made a point of keeping his hand in his face and pushing down a lot longer than he needed to ? It sure looked that way to me.
 
I was hurting just watching him. He is such a tough player who plays with so much energy. I love watching him play. Our frontcourt is becoming such a strength, no pun intended.

Bill Walker is a dirty SOB, he was frustrated and was hacking the **** out of our guys as much as he could late in the game.
 
fwiw there was an article in espn's uniwatch column about the guy who makes those masks. Or maybe somewhere else? Basically there is just the one dude who makes all these masks. What a weird job.
 
Not sure, but I think that picture is of Atchley when he hit the follow-up off a miss. Great acrobatic move, I remember he hit the deck with one other player (thought it was Mason, but that may have been the picture.)

Totally off the subject, of course, I just thought that was a great play.
