Just got word that Jordan Hicks will announce this Friday in an 11:30 CST press conference from his high school...

C'mon down to Austin, Jordan. You'd be a welcome addition to what is already an incredible class!

<hysterical uninformed UT fan>WAIT?? I thought he had to be enrolled by last week, since it was guaranteed he was enrolling early? OHHh this can be a good sign, he must be signing to OhioSt, since they do quarters.. arrrggha we are screwed!>W>Qda </<hysterical uninformed UT fan>:

Most tOSU insiders are very pessimistic about Hicks ending up in Columbus. None are saying 'done deal' to UT, but most have long felt that he would end up in Austin. One guy, who has been largely mum but has good sources and is respected, has said he was told Hicks to the Buckeyes. I think that the national guys who suggest tOSU get Hicks are glomming onto the one voice that is positive for the Bucks because of his rep and the more definite tenor of his info. I have all along felt that Hicks would end up in Austin and I still do. Childhood fav, quality program, likes the coaches, mother likes the school, and a much better chance at early PT than that found in Columbus.

I think that he toyed with enrolling early but decided to play BB one last time and therefore jettisoned early enrollment as a priority.

The only thing tOSU has in its favor is proximity to the life he has had over the most recent years (and a superior tradition with LBs).

I think he has been truly conflicted rather than concerned with some sort of backlash as there has been no time wherein Ohioans felt Hicks considered himself a rooted Ohioan or partial to Buckeyes football. I think the conflict revolves around a kid that values friends and family, a kid who, now facing the choice of actually leaping away from some of that, is just making sure.

I think UT unless Meyer manages to wheedle into his brain these last several dozens of hours.

I have no idea what he will do but certainly, Ohio State offers tradition and a big game atmosphere. Ohio State has the aura of those dirty uniforms battling it out in the fall with the weather dropping and the "i" being dotted. In my view, he can't lose....

I neer expect the big OOS recruits who wait to the last minute to pick the Horns, the track record over past couple of years just isnt good if they arent from texas and wait until end.

Our record at UT for picking up 5-star recruits at the last minute in the Mack era is near zero, it may be zero--if Chris Simms wasn't a 5-star quarterback. Regardless, our record in that category is awful.

We are freezing our collective asses here in SW Ohio. I can't wait to get out of here and down to Austin. If Mr. Hicks really likes this weather, then I guess we don't get him.

The fact that he is going to announce at his High School which is in Ohio tells me he is going to choose tOSU.

I think we should start going hard after Corey Nelson now!

SO if he plans on choosing UT, he needs to fly to Austin to announce his decision??

I'm sorry...i'm a b-ball fan, and i saw the #1 ranked men's b-ball recruit commit to UNC from his high school in Iowa this year (Iowa State was in his finalists). Also saw a top ranked women's b-ball recruit commit to tOSU from her high school in Minnesota last spring (the gophers in her finalists as well).

Where else are they suppose to announce a commitment?? Is football different from basketball??

Just sayin'.......

I expect if it is NOT tOSU I believe it will leak today or tonight. Somebody, an assistant coach or family friend, that isn't happy with the decision will leak it Isn't that what typically happens in these scenarios?

All the effort? 99% of all level of college athletes make their public announcements in their high schools if it is newsworthy...

Public announcement at his HS = tomorrow is a school day.

There is not going to be some crazy backlash over Hicks choosing UT (or UF, though that seems increasingly unlikely). He has had tOSU trailing from the word jump.

I amend a previous post by noting that JT Turner, a 5-star from Ohio, went to Michigan last year. I forgot about that because no one really talked about it (he made it known where he wanted to go early and then committed). Hicks has waited until late in the game to announce, so there has been some rumbling that he might choose the Bucks, but most have been very pessimistic about Ohio State's chances. I cannot stress enough how unusual that is with a top-rated LBer from Ohio (though people think of Hicks as being 'from Ohio' in only the most superficial, circumstantial of ways).

When I said that geography was the only thing that tOSU had going for it I wasn't downgrading the Buckeye program in any way. I was saying that Hicks doesn't want to go there, that he has always wanted to go somewhere else and, barring issues in Ohio that can't be left behind for several semesters, he will go elsewhere. With all of the change in the staff at UF, and with Hicks' love of UT dating back to before he was a big-time recruit, UT is a logical choice.

Finally, and this can't be stressed enough either, when I note that tOSU has a stronger LBer trad than Texas I am noting something that is in effect at this very moment. The LB depth in Columbus is 6-7 players deep entering 2010, with two 5-star guys in the wings. Injuries have led to considerable playing time for 4 of those 6 or 7. The presumption that Hicks would be able to steal a spot is not one held by any knowledgeable fan and it s hard to believe that the staff or Hicks himself looks at that depth and experience without thinking 'Jordan sits for a year or two before getting into the mix.' At that point who knows what other LB talent will end up at tOSU. He is looking at a UT team that, while not without talent, does not have the same quality or depth as tOSU, a team that will be losing starters.

Only a hook in Ohio will keep him there, and I have not really heard anything other than his mother really likes Texas, too.

Anything can and often does happen in recruiting, but this one seems fairly straight forward save for the coaching changes at UF. He has made three visits, has had UT and UF in the lead all along, and has not really played the recruiting game. He like UT better than tOSU. He goes to Texas.
