I had like 9 shades of deja vu when I read that. I remember 1991-92 and almost everyone in Austin was telling the "what do Texas and OU have in common?" joke. (that we both lost games because of Gardere). I can even remember someone using it in the Texan and getting in trouble.

I was friends with Shannon Kelley and Gardere's brother, Tad, growing up. It was cool saying that I use to pick on Peter. Thinking back on those days, though, we kind of sucked. It would have been much cooler to be friends with Vince.
