Great new restaurant on North Lamar, just south of 183. Family owned joint...I think they are from the Baja area of California. They have Tex-Mex type stuff, but specialize in a lot of seafood dishes.
The owner of the place cooks and he takes great pride in his food. When the plates come out, you can see he pays close attention to presentation.

His daughter works the front of the house and is absolutely gorgeous. Think Penelope Cruz. Yowzas!

Try the Tuna Tartare Sandwich....absolutely delicious. It comes rare/medium rare on a whole grain bun, with a spicy aioli, sprouts, avocado swiss cheese and tomatoes.

The Fish Tacos are also very, very good. It's kind of an obscure location and strange menu, but its right down the street from work and I eat there at least twice a week.

Highly recommended.

not too far from my place in crestview -- i go to that liquor store -- never would have thought to try it but i'll give it a shot. thanks for the recc.

Mrs. Guapo and I went there tonight. Simply outstanding. Best meal I've had in a long, long time.

As per nate's recommendation, I got the Ahi Tuna sandwich. Mrs. G got the snapper fillet, which was on the specials board. The menu is pretty limited but the specials board had like 10 things on it. Both were fantastic. The waitress, who apparently was the wife of the owner/chef, brought us both a cup of clam chowder on the house. Said her husband was thinking of putting it on the menu and wanted our opinion. Not that I'm any kind of clam chowder expert, but I've been a bit disappointed by chowder many times in the past, including in Boston. This stuff was delicious.

Dammit, just realized I forgot to pick up a take-home menu on the way out.

And yes, the daughter was indeed as good as advertised.

Oh yeah - no liquor license, so that means you can bring your own. They're two doors down from a liquor store.

People, get over there and support this place.

Ate there on Sat. afternoon. I am enchilada junkie, so I went with the cheese enchiladas. They were very tasty and very different than tex mex enchiladas. My enchiladas were not greasy, and had a very fresh and clean feel to them. They were served in a red sauce with grated almost shaved cheese on top. I was pleased with the beans and rice as well. My gf is from the same area of CA as the family that owns Fuegos, and I could tell by the taste and menu that she would love this place.

The daughter is very cute, but not enough curves for me. She is only 20 and has a boyfriend who went to UT, so she cheers for the horns, but doesn't really know much about UT, Austin or Texas. I will be going again sometime soon with the GF to get her take on the place.

Not a chance. I ate there for lunch today, actually. I'll just wait till she gets older and dumps her boyfriend. How did you find out so much info about her?

I was the only person eating in the place, so she was very friendly to me. We just started talking about everything from food to football and everything in between. I was wearing a UT cap, so that's how we talked about UT. She's pretty friendly.

Ate there Friday for lunch with my girlfriend from San Diego, and she loved the food. She got the grilled ahi sandwich, and I had the shrimp rancheros, which was very tasteful. I'll go back for lunch some time this week.

I decided to jump after reading the reviews here. I am a sucker for carnitas, but they have to be prepared in a very particular way for me to like them. Fuegos was spot on with theirs. This chilango was very satisfied with his meal. I will be going back and branching out in the menu.

Just got back from another fantastic meal at Fuego's. Ahi Tuna sandwich for me, fish tacos for Mrs. Guapo. They've had to cut down the menu because of lack of business. I had my heart set of the NY Strip I saw last time I was there. They couldn't sell enough of them and took it off.

GET OVER THERE AND SUPPORT THIS PLACE!!!

Guapo, I had the last NY strip. They pulled them off the menu a few weeks ago. It was cooked nicely and served with a little warm gorganzola cheese crumbled on top. Came with homemade onion rings. Had the fish tacos last week for lunch, they were very tasty. Try Fuegos fat burger. Damn thing is good.

For you young single guys, the daughter is currently single, but has her eye on some lucky guy.

I had the Fuego's Fat Burger for lunch about a month ago. It was allsome.

I hope these guys can make it. Every time I've been there haven't beem more than two other customers in the whole place, it fhat. Usually I have the place to myself. At 7:30 p.m. on Friday night, Mrs. Guapo and I were the only ones there. It's very sad - they deserve better.

This place finally got some love from The Austin Chronicle. As a bonus, there is a picture of the daughter in there. She's better looking in person. But go for the food, it won't disappoint.

Went there for lunch on Saturday. The place was packed and there was a 20 minute wait. Damn hipsters. Go back to South Congress where you belong.

j/k It was great to see them doing well. Hopefully they'll be able to get into a better location soon.

btw, the clam chowder is allsome.
