FSU president: 4, 8, 16-Team Playoff inevitable

I talked to him today at a function here in Tallahassee. He predicts 5 years, when the current BCS contracts are all expired. He says too many colleges need the extra money - and he blames most of the extra expenses on coaches salaries going out of sight. T.K is an ex-jock (played for Bobby Bowden), and is one of the few school presidents that actually understands the true role sports play in the college environment. He's also pushing FSU to follow the Texas recruiting plan, trying to get early commitments, and get people with good character - FSU has had some serious problems in that area over the last few years. I hope his prediction is right - but I'm not holding my breath.
 
Many people want a playoff system for more excitement and to prevent years like 04 when you had 3 big name teams go undefeated and only 2 spots in the MNC game. But to me I think it is just sad that the way the system is set up with preseason polls, the BCS ranking system, and the old bowl alliances built in, that you just don't give these teams from smaller conferences a chance to win a title. These teams start out at the beginning of the season thinking man if we go undefeated and win big we may have a shot at playing in a BCS game....not the MNC game, but a BCS game. Meanwhile teams from major conferences are thinking, man if we only lose 1 game we can go to a BCS game, maybe even the MNC game. **** LSU this year lost 2 games and went to the MNC game. The current system stinks. There have been years like 02 and 05 where it was known that there were 2 teams a cut above the others and those teams deserved to be in the MNC game. But for just about every other season there is no 2 teams playoff that works and the BCS as whole cheats the smaller conference teams.
