This season was out second NC for that decade. I am sure they will highlight the Notre Dame game but I hope they include the first fourth and 2 and the Notre Dame 20 in the fourth quarter. Enjoy!

, what jumps out is....that wishbone triple option offense was pretty good, huh?

You are certainly right about the wishbone blonthang. The thing is that we had no major weaknesses that year. Our wishbone was great and Oklahoma tried to cut off our running but they found out that year that if they did Street would simply start passing to Cotton Speyrer or Randy Pascal as the Sooners wisely but sadly found out. We had good kicking, punting and specialty teams.
Our defense was very awesome even though they didn't have the statistics our 1963 team had. They scored points for us and set up points for us with turnovers and getting our offense good field position. In fact a lot of points that were scored on them were when we were using reserves in games already won. When Arkansas played us Coach Frank Broyles of Arkansas said that he concentrated on getting his offense ready because of the great UT defense. He felt his defense would play a good game. It almost worked because they were ready and we played our worse game of the year but were still good enough to win in the fourth quarter.

Before the Arkie game, the '69 offense averaged over 44 points a game for the first nine games of the season. I think that team is often overlooked when talking about greatest all-time teams.

We also had one of the best defensive linemen in the country in Leo Brooks who went on to have a great pro career and would have won every lineman award in the country but we lost him in the SMU game. This would have been a death blow to a lot of defenses but we had players who took over his position and did a great job and the defense continued to dominate. That is the mark of a great team when you lose a player like Leo and yet keep going good.

I saw it last night and it was great. They had highlights for us against Texas Tech, A&M, Arkansas and Notre Dame. We all know about our offense but the highlights showned some great defensive play from us and I had forgotten that besides being a great receiver Cotton Speyrer was a dangerous punt return man. The only disappontment was that I wished they had also included that key fourth and one against Notre Dame on our last drive that we had on their twenty.

Thanks for the heads up, Bill in Sinton. I watched it and enjoyed it. There are some similarities between the Notre Dame MNC game and the USC MNC game, in that we had to come back late to win. In both games we scored a touchdown in the final minute of play to pull out the victory.
