Frozen Margarita Help

Surely one of the experts from our site can help me out...

I love frozen margaritas and quite happily made them all the time to entertain when I lived in Texas. Now I live in London, and I am hosting a Texas Independence Day party. I would like for my new friends to experience the wonder of the frozen 'rita, however, I have not been able to find frozen limeade or a respectable substitute anywhere here!

Can anyone tell me how to make a frozen margarita without frozen limeade?

Thanks!

Wow . . . good question. I'm almost inclined to suggest that you default to one of those crummy liquid "margarita mix" concoctions, but you'd probably have to have it sent from the States, and it would suck anyway.

Are rocks margaritas out of the question? Maybe you could just try blending up a rocks marg and tweaking the recipe it until it works in large amounts?

Good luck . . .

can you get fresh limes? 'cuz I found a handful of recipes using lime juice online:

2 tsp coarse salt
1 lime wedge
3 oz white tequila
1 oz triple sec
2 oz lime juice
1 cup crushed ice

Place salt in a saucer. Rub rim of a cocktail glass with lime wedge and dip glass into salt to coat rim thoroughly, reserve lime. Pour tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and crushed ice into a blender. Blend well at high speed. Pour into a cocktail glass.

I realize that. Last time I was in a London supermarket like Sainsbury's, I remember seeing a large selection of produce. I'm sure limes and lemons are available, but probably not cheap.

Thanks guys! (Btw, I am a girl.)

Limes are not a problem here - there are fresh fruit stands all along the walk home.

Going to get a blender tomorrow and try it out!

CEH,

You are right about the cost-one thing I've learned quickly is that NOTHING is cheap here! (Except, oddly, sudafed...)

Make your own sweet and sour. Lime juice, sugar, and water. Add some egg whites if ya want it to get frothy when you blend it.

my wife is having a gig for some of her friends and needs some sugar-free margaritas for some of the girls (or wants, i told her to stick to wine). anyway, do they make sugar-free or "diet" limeaid?

Simply use fresh lime juice. Remember the fresh lime will be MUCH more concentrated than a limeade (water blended) mixture. I would experiment using the recipie above as a benchpoint. I will say that I would start off with:
a 2:1:1 ratio of Lime juice: Tequile: (gran Marnier or tripple sec). I prefer more "orange" taste to counter the tartness of the lime. I you don't want to spring for Grand Marnier, add a little Orange Juice to cut the tartness.

If you don't have a powerful blender like a Waring you will never get a truly smooth consistancy.

just to chime in here, i made some last summer with hacienda de chihuahua sotol (plata) and it was outstanding. without the technical expalanation, it is not "tequila" - it is sotol - but still made from the agave plant and it makes a hell of a margarita for cheap. twin had it around $17 or $18 a bottle when i grabbed some.

i'd say it doesn't have nearly as much bite as any of the lower end offerings from the manufacturers you listed.
