Front end alignment

Took the car in for an inspection this morning. I'd noticed the front tires were pretty worn on the outside edge but the rears were fine. I wasn't surprised that it didn't pass, but I was surprised at the extent of wear on the inside edge of the front tire. The guy said they were bald and almost to the steel belts.

So, I went ahead and got an alignment and apparently the front end was pretty badly out of alignment. Rear was OK. I had an alignment maybe 4 or 5 years ago - is this just something that happens over time or is there a particular reason the alignment might have gone so haywire?

One thing that concerns me is that we're in the process of moving right now and the only way in and out of new place is through 7 speed bumps. I hope like hell the speed bumps didn't cause this because I just might have to move again before we even unpack. And if the speedbumps did cause this, I might have to swallow my pride and get suttree on retainer because this is ********.

It's a 96 Maxima, if that helps.

If your front tire was that bad, it's probably been out of line for a long time and you just didn't notice. Once it's aligned, you shouldn't have any frequent problems, unless you have a bad ball-joint or ty-rod end. Of course, if that was the case, the mechanic probably would have caught that. Every now and then while driving, hold the steering wheel where it's exactly straight. If the car veers right or left in a convincing fashion, it's out of line.

Hope this helps.

BTW- The only way speed bumps are going to screw up your alignment, is if you hit them at about 60 mph.
