In other news, Bernie Sanders is pissing off the radical feminist Democrats by openly campaigning for a pro-life Democrat. Even though he's staunchly in favor of abortion rights, he quietly supports deemphasizing social issues and not ostracizing those who disagree on them. I think he believes that doing so well help them retake the Midwest better than pitching the unyielding radicalism that the so-called mainstream of the party supports. He's probably right.

He's not wrong. If the Democrats are to have any hope at making inroads in the midwest they need to be more open to "hybrid" candidates. Typically, they've been open to NRA supporting candidates. Pro-life candidates are simply the next step. I don't see what's wrong is supporting a candidate that openly voices their own views but commits to not pushing them on others. That's why I respected Kasich so much. It's OK to be socially conservative (Pro-life, anti-gay marriage) yet not make them public policy. I can support that candidate.

And both parties used to do this, because they wanted to win outside of their base districts. You had pro-life Democrats from southern and midwestern states and pro-choice Republicans from the northeast and several who were in between. Things worked better back then.
