Went on a nostalgia tour yesterday -

Drove down to N. Lamar and bought a vacuum filter at Austin Vacuum store, then dropped into the Frisco on Burnet for the first time in 40 years. Had a Top Chopped Rancher plate. It hadn't changed in all that time except for price - $2.45 vs $12.95.

Sure was good.

I try to take my 15 year old to the few remaining Austin hang outs. Frisco is on our route. Can't believe you waited 40 years, Sco Pro. Took him to Hofbrau for the first time on Thursday. He wasn't sure at first, but by the end of the meal he was sopping up the juice with the remaining bread. Too bad I can't take him for a plate of enchiladas at Jakes, or a plate of oysters at Caruso's, or to hear the Thunderbirds at Rome Inn, or...

Take him to the Dart Bowl for the cheese enchiladas. My sons became acquainted with them in the 70's.

One of my favorite meals in Austin is the Chili burger with a chocolate cream pie chaser. And depending on the time of day, the same waitress that served me as kid will serve me as well.

Top Notch makes a damn good hamburger. Grilled up just like you would do yourself in the backyard. The tining I also like is the varity of burgers they have (six or seven different ones) so its not like I stick to the same one on each visit.

After eating there for eight years I finally tried their fried chicken the other day. FANTASTIC.
