It is Texanne...Bob Cole is partnering up to help keep one more legendary Austin eatery alive. For the most part I don't like Bob, but I really admire him for resurrecting Hill's Cafe, saving The Tavern(air conditioned) and now the Frisco. I'm looking forward to the re-opening.
I worked at the No. 1 bar downtown one summer when I was in school, and I really loved Nigh Hawk. I am glad Bob is coming to the rescue of another Austin legend. I just hope the food -- especially the Frisco burger -- tastes the same.
I hope nothing changes when they move the Frisco. It is the last surviving remnant of the popular Night Hawk restaurant chain. There are still waitresses working there who worked there the day the place opened, over 30 years ago. And I heard the long-time cook was now the owner, or part owner of the Frisco.
The Frisco burger is still exactly the same as it was 35 years ago, and many other menu items remain unchanged.
I didn't go to the original location, (my dad remembers it)which was more or less right across Guadalupe from where the Hole in the Wall is located, but I went to the one on the Drag just down from Dobie Mall, the across the river location on S. Congress, and one other, further south, I think. Also had one or two San Antonio locations.
The Night Hawk at one time had its own cattle ranch, and its own frozen food division, and you could buy their chopped steak as a TV dinner at HEB.
