Friendly Austin driving:

this happened off of riverside. that's all that you need to know about how "friendly" the drivers are in that area.

Yeah, I'm guessing (hoping?) that they are undocumented aliens, because at least that would give the drivers some sort of excuse, but the fact that the dude got hit by two drivers, neither of whom stopped, is incredibly despicable.

Anyway, I've been hit and run in nicer areas of Austin, this could have happened anywhere.

That was friendly driving. Neither of those drivers turned around to hit the dude again, like they would have done in Houston.

I live on that little stretch of Little Mexico known as E. Riverside and this doesn't surprise me at all. What I wonder is why the man hit was crossing the full length of the 4 lane road with east/west traffic moving at about 50. Not the smartest of moves and it happens all the time.

I'm in agreement that failure to render aid is sad and absurd, but again it doesn't surprise me much. The amount of ******** and ridiculousness that occurs on that road on a nightly basis (especially Fri-Sun) amazes me, and it seems to get worse the longer I live there. I don't want to turn this into a racial war but come the hell on, is there nothing that can be done to at least make that stretch semi-decent?

They are hoping to do that with the red light camera at PV and Riverside, Vice. I don't know that is the solution but it is a baby step forward. I am with you that if people want to make it race related, bring it but race is not an issue here.

I work along that stretch of road often and I see every demographic driving like ****, esp. down there. Idiocy knows no racial or sexual barriers/limits.

I am dumbfounded by some of the **** you see in that part of town. It exists all over but is more concentrated there. We have to always be extra alert down there. **** jumps out at you all the time. Shopping carts in the road, kids not being held by their parents, kids crossing for fun, old or handicapped people, mentally disabled, you name it. You see it all.

A crosswalk can be a few feet away but people choose not to use them. I am baffled this does not happen more often. Heck, I have seen fights break out in the street before. I see at least 5 or so accidents occur right in front of me. A couple a week I don't see but feel the effects of.

Something, anything has to be done. They tried to lower the speed limit from I-35 to around Montopolis. It was 40, now 35. Does not matter. People still do 50. And the cops are out often giving tickets. You almost expect them over by that costume shop or Jack In The Box with radar guns. Then it opens up and so do the throttles.

That piece of road has always been "Wild West" same as parts of North Lamar where similar stuff has happened recently. Same as it ever was.

I swear, it almost seems as if people on E. Riverside and E. Oltorf WANT to get run over. There are ALWAYS people darting across the street. I've come very close to running people over.
