Fresno State = most underachieving team ever

At least in the regular season. Are you kidding me? How were they 4 games above 0.500 in the regular season?

That said, I rooted for them big time vs. UGa. Great story! Congrats!!!

I think they just really hit their stride. They had to win to advance out of their conference tourney and that just set a precedent. They had their backs to the wall against Long Beach, San Diego, Arizona State, North Carolina, and Georgia and won. They were a gritty team and I don't think they were underperforming during the year. Sometimes teams get lucky. Just like Villinova against Georgetown.

The regular season doesn't count for too much in college baseball. Getting hot in the regionals/Omaha does count.
Oregon State, now Fresno State, which team will be next?
Fresno State refused to lose, and came from behind many times during their run, but several other teams did the same to get to Omaha, or to win games there.
It is all about catching fire at the end of the year.

I tend to think of them as having learned some lessons in their earlier games (quite a few of them losses). They kept improving as the season progressed. At the end, they were nails.

As mentioned above Augie, Oregon St. and others have used that formula - it's just that no one else has had a season with such dramatic improvement. Or 31 losses.

Ten years from now, few will remember how many losses. They will remember a gritty team who fought through injuries and won it all.
